Raiders sign tackle Tony Hills

The Raiders, whose offensive line struggled mightily in their last preseason game, have signed ex-Bills tackle Tony Hills, the team said Tuesday.

In a corresponding transaction, the Raiders waived/injured kicker Eddy Carmona.

Hills, 28, has appeared in 10 regular-season games since entering the NFL with Pittsbrugh in 2008. He played in six regular-season games for Indianapolis in 2012, starting one game as an extra tight end.

The Bills released Hills, whom they signed in July, on Sunday.

Hills could compete for a reserve role with the Raiders, who allowed seven sacks in Friday’s preseason loss at New Orleans. The club recently lost starting left tackle Jared Veldheer to a triceps injury that is likely to cost him at least part of the season, leaving Alex Barron as the current starter on the left side.

I don’t really know him, but he must be better than Willie Smith.

Hills was a project for the Steelers for a few years, they wisely gave up on him last year.

Barron’s foot work was horrible & sloth like the other night.

Another pathetic signing by the GM . Raiders please get a real GM that can turn this team around.

    The Hills have eyes.

Defensive tackles make sense – tackling is what they do. Then there are defensive ends, who are positioned on the end of the line.

Then there is the center, who is positioned in the center of the offensive line. And there are offensive guards, who block to guard the QB / RB.

So why are there offensive tackles?

    Championship!!

Jamaal Brown and Jared Gaither come to mind. Pay them by the game. While were at it, Cooper Carlisle should be brought back if the Guard play is that bad.

So is it going to be Jadeveon Clowney or Terry Bridgewater in the draft next year?

  13. gibbyfan says: Aug 20, 2013 4:27 PM

They will have way too many holes to afford not to trade the Clowney pick— Super QB will be th eonly possible game changer fix.

Obviously. I feel like we should hire Harry Potter as GM so he can make great signings appear out of thin air – or at least use his magic wand to create free agents that don’t exist. You’re really onto something there. Wait a minute – are you… him?

wow, all the hate on Barron…I will still keep an open mind when it comes to him. I do know he was beaten badly when the saints did a stunt blitz on the right side which left him one on one on the left side with no one in the backfield, but with the right play call, they could have thrown a screen to DMC who would have had 20 yards of green grass.

Also still waiting on our 2nd round pick Watson, and see what he has to offer. In all reality it should have been Vehldeer on the left, and Watson on the right.

I was well prepared for a long, ugly season, but seeing the words Alex Barron and starting left tackle in the same sentence just ruins the good news coming out of Denver.

I really wish for some good luck for once.

Too bad the RAIDERS did not get Gaither 2 yrs ago.

Gaither helped the Chargers the RAIDERS on the last day of the season neutralizing Kameron Wimbley to ZERO sacks after Wimbley sacked Rivers 4 times earlier that season.

Plus having Rolando McClain covering Gates and Vincent Jackson on Touchdowns kept the RAIDERS from hosting the Steelers in the Playoffs.

    UGH.

    Sorry, I am rambling!!!!

Just tired of our personnel and losing.

Melenik Watson must not be ready to be thrown into the fire.

I like to see him get chance over a Re-Tread. (Barron)

I would rather have Veldheer healthy than have him rush back.

The “HULK” needs his arms healthy to keep guys away from QB.

Go Raiders hope Veldheer and McFadden are both back next year for a true push to the playoffs!

    Silver & Black Baby!

Hey, give Reggie a break. He is not signing Packers cast-offs, he is signing former Stanford players.

Sure, they are sub-mediocre and haven’t been able to start for any other team but they will be starters for the Raiders within a month.

Just keep an eye on Reggie, baby.

He will be piloting that huge garbage scow of the Raiders around looking to grab the trash the other teams ditch just prior to the last mandatory cut.

It’s high and it stinks no longer refers to an Elephant’s anus it refers to our garbage scow player pile.

Fire Reggie, Fire Allen and hire somebody who knows what’n’hell they are ding.

    Please
