Report: Police find gun used in July 2012 double murder

Reuters

Authorities are still looking for the gun used to kill Odin Lloyd, allegedly by or at the behest of former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.  But they’ve reportedly found the weapon used in a separate double murder linked to Hernandez.

According to CBS 3, the gun was recovered in connection with the June 21 arrest of 19-year-old Jailene Diaz-Ramos.  She had crashed her car in Springfield, Massachusetts, and police found a .38-caliber revolver upon searching the vehicle.  Ballistics testing determined that the gun matched the weapon that fired bullets found at the scene of the July 2012 murder of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado in Boston.

It’s unknown whether Diaz-Ramos, who lives in Hernandez’s hometown of Bristol, Connecticut, has any connection to Hernandez.  She told police that the gun belongs to a friend she referred to only as “Chicago.”

But she also said she gave her friends a ride to work, and that her friends are football players.

Curiously, police also found a locked safe in the trunk of the car; a warrant to search the safe has not yet been issued.  But with the gun used to kill Lloyd still missing and with the arrest of Diaz-Ramos coming only a few days after Lloyd was shot, it’s hard not to wonder whether the .45-caliber Glock that killed Lloyd is inside that safe.

  1. We’ll see him on Lock Up in a few years throwing feces on the CO’s and demonstrating how to heat up Ramen in the cell.

  2. Damn right it’s very hard not to wonder where the 45 Glock is camped in that safe. How many nanoseconds before they issue a search warrant?

  3. Wow, these people are really idiots. I’m no seasoned criminal, but I even know to get rid of a gun after you use it in a murder. There are plenty of rivers and lakes to throw them into

  4. If this wasn’t such a catastrophe, it would sound like the plot of a new television series

  5. Wait, so police have arrested a woman who was in possession of a gun used for a double homicide, and in the trunk of the car she was driving when arrested there is a safe. They need a warrant to open that safe? How is that not probable cause?

And if they don’t have that car in their impound, not a chance that gun is still in the safe (if it ever was).

  6. Someone should get Gerlado Rivera to do a prime time event cracking the safe. He has a lot in common with Hernandez, like taking selfies.

  7. Damn, everyone associated with Hernandez seems to be a complete moron.

Its amazing it took this long to indict him.

  8. Wow! So many twists and turns in this case! While I loved Hernandez on the playing field, I will admit, this is one bad, scary guy. So glad he’s off our team.

  9. Wait – how does this make any sense in the timeline? Authorities had the murder weapon of the July 2012 murders AND a safe since June?? Why did they spend a week searching a lake in CT? Something is not adding up!

Yes, b/c a safe can only be used for used murder weapons.

  11. Maybe she got arrested on June 21st, but they just received the results of the ballistics tests so they haven’t asked for a warrant for the safe yet?

Anyone know how long it takes to complete ballistics testing?

  12. Why do such an alarming number of people connected with this case end up renting and/or crashing their cars over and over?

Fair question, but it’s possible that police either aren’t willing or aren’t able to comment whether they have gotten inside the safe yet.

It seems the industry standard is one commercial break. 😉

  15. I’m guessing that they don’t *need* the warrant to open the safe, but it probably would make it less likely to get thrown out of court.

Surprised?? We’re talking about the cops.

  18. “What’s in the box?”

    a jackass named Hernandez.

this kid is really stupid and so are is friends!

  19. The timeline doesn’t seem too far off. They confiscated the gun before running ballistics on it. I’m sure it wasn’t put in as a rush order. They probably had other guns that were suspected of being murder weapons that were tested as a higher priority.

  20. I feel like everytime PFT posts an article about Hernandez and his crew, they should have the Benny Hill Show song going. Hernandez and crew are complete clowns. Havent they ever watched Law and Order?

  21. Does this lady live under a rock? Your friend is going up on murder charges and has recently been linked to another double murder. Yet, you hold onto his gun as if there was nothing to it. If it were me and the gun was found, it would have been about 7 states away.

    She’s guilty of being stupid.

  22. If I were innocent (which I don’t think he is) I would be glad that they found the gun so it could be used to help clear me.

  23. Why on earth would you keep a murder weapon locked in a safe in the back of your car? Doesn’t it seem like destroying it would be a better plan? Toss it in a furnace, bury it in an abandoned mine, drop it down a well, toss it into the ocean, sell it to an out of state pawn shop, give it to a criminal (you obviously know some) and report it stolen, anything.

Are you going to keep it in a safe to protect the memorabilia resale value for once he is acquitted of the crimes due to a lack of murder weapon?

  24. How has nobody. Mentioned the fact that this girl has been driving around with guns instead of ditching them…..

  25. If his prints aren’t on the gun or it’s not registered to him I don’t see how this implicates him any further, regarding the double homicide.

  26. this is very confusing…..they either have the safe or knew about it since june yet they spent a butt load of time and money in august diving in a pond elsewhere looking for a gun instead of opening the safe.

  27. “Ah Ms Ramos, here is a picture of one Hernandez. Is he the jerk your refering to as Chicago? If not, here is the picture of the entire team. please point out who Chicago is in this picture so we can go have a talk with him.”

    Hernandez is screeeeeeeeeeeeewed.

  28. Didn’t Hernandez baby understand that one of the three accomplishes would rat on him to save their own arse? Apparently he didn’t think anyone would tie him to the crime in the first place so he had no reason to ditch the gun.

  29. CT, FL and MA all have a huge ocean next to them. Murderers, do yourselves a favor after committing a heinous act: take a boat and head out there to toss your dirty weapons a few hundred yards off the coast.

  30. Dumb criminals, man. Just unbelievably dumb. My guess is these people have seen neither CSI nor Godfather II when Vite takes the gun, breaks it and drops it into 3 different tubes.

Col. Hannibal ” Give me a minute, I’m good. Give me an hour, I’m great. Give me six months, I’m unbeatable.”

Stupid criminals have all that time to get rid of a piece and they hold onto it like Bird on The Wire? I guess we should be glad that these killers are this dumb because their existence threatens all of ours.

  31. It would be a stretch to say that this is all a coincidence. I think the Hernandez case(s) are about to blow wide open, especially when they open the safe. What a stupid idiot.

    The patriot way…
    ————————————————
You know, I hate the Patriots as much as the next guy outside of New England, but these comments are just dumb. Get a new schtick, that one’s really lame.

  33. You mean to tell me the Patriots who created spying scandals but weren’t punished didn’t know this guy was murdering folks up and down the east coast? You didn’t see the tats on his arm….HELLO!!!! in My Herm Edwards voice.

  34. Hernandez and his crew have to be among the most stupid murderers in the history of the world.

The chain of evidence they’ve left behind themselves and the circumstances of the Lloyd murder boggle the mind.

  35. “Chicago, he my friend, but I did not know he had left no gun in my car, because you see I had give my friends a ride to work and some of them football players”—Diaz-Ramos is being looked at for a ‘possible link’ to the double murder?? garbage should be thrown away, just put in the trash already.

  36. Hernandez thinks he such a tough guy. But when the real tough guys finish working on him in the night time, all the bass in his voice will be gone.

Then he’ll know how much trouble he’s really in.

I agree, but don’t forget this is the same bunch of people who still make “Ray Lewis is a murderer” jokes, “Ben is a rapist” jokes, “Rex Ryan is fat and has a foot fetish” jokes, and “Michael Vick killed dogs” jokes.

What makes you think they’re going to stop making jokes about “the Patriot way”?

  38. “voiceofsweetness says: Aug 20, 2013 10:29 AM
Couldn’t they x-ray the safe without a warrant just to see if a weapon is in there?
I would think they could do that just to get a warrant approved if they see a gun.”
    =============================================

That idea would fall under the category of the Keystone cops and would be Aaron Hernandez level of stupidity. Any 1st year law student could destroy you in court for illegal search.

  39. I live in Springfield and Ive heard that Hernandez used to always hang out at this club in Springfield with Latin Kings. I always thought it was a myth but it might be true now that I read this

  40. She is screwed….if she doesn’t give up the actual person….she’ll get pinned with a potential life sentence. It’s only a matter of time before she rolls.

  41. vwbrown19 says: Aug 20, 2013 12:58 PM

Wow how many murders are linked to Hernandez?

*** At this point, beyond reasonable doubt? None

  42. How ironic she knows the the guy as “Chicago” where daily murders are as common place as going to McDonalds.

    ——————–

No, Odin llyod’s favorite team? Chicago bears. Odin llyod’s nickname is?….

    yup, chicago.

  44. Not that I dont want to see justice but how many of you have had your car searched after an accident? I hate people who throw the constitution argument around but….

  45. AH is too arrogant to go by the name Chicago. It’s either Odin Lloyd and or another of the semi-pro guys.

  46. What they say is true. Good help REALLY IS hard to find.

I’m wondering what possessed Aaron or any of his cronies to put this in the hands of a 19 year old girl, and expect her to hold up if things went sideways.

I would think that if a gun were used in a crime, that gun has reached the end of it’s useful life, and it’s potential as an “evidence bomb” going off in your face would make the decision to eliminate it an easy one, especially since money to buy a new one is no object. I’m no expert, but I’d have ground that thing to dust, or lost it overboard on a ferry ride to Nantucket. I have to wonder if this stuff was stolen from friends that were hiding the guns. Why else would they be inside the trunk of a car? When you drive a car, you are on THE MAN’S grid. THE MAN makes the rules on the grid. You give up a lot of rights and privacy when you travel on THE GRID. You are at the mercy of all the other people on THE MAN’S GRID with regard to being in an accident, stopped, or picked out of a DUI checkpoint and identified and potentially searched.

And guess what…..MA has a mandatory gun law of one year in prison for possessing a gun illegally. Will Jaylene get the year, or will they work a deal with her? If there is no deal or she has no value to the case, she may just get a pass anyway for being female. The law works in mysterious ways….

  47. Not even like it was Austrian or Australian. Or one of those unique guns you get attached to.
