49ers have some interest in Seneca Wallace

Seneca Wallace AP

When the 49ers traded for quarterback Colt McCoy, there was a school of thought that he’d have the inside track to the backup job.

He might still, but there’s traffic, and it seems to be building.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the 49ers have some interest in Seneca Wallace, and could arrange a visit with him soon.

Wallace was released by the Saints after a shabby outing against the Raiders (which included an interception and a fumble returned for a touchdown). He didn’t play last season after being cut by the Browns after training camp.

The 49ers have thrown the competition wide open, with Scott Tolzien and B.J. Daniels getting the same amount of practice snaps as McCoy. Coach Jim Harbaugh said McCoy would be the second quarterback in Sunday’s game.

Yeah, of course the dirty 9ers will try anything to keep up with the Saints since they have to play in the Superdome this year, lol..

Seattle’s red-headed stepchild desperately trying to emulate their masters.

They should show some interest in bolstering their receiver core instead. Boldin is by himself as a WR, and he’s getting a little old to be drawing the double-teams that will surely come his way.

Seneca is so old he was part of the greeting party that met Columbus.

    49ers have interest in EVERYBODY!!!

Looks like his style would be a perfect fit there. And his career numbers are actually quite good: Close to twice as many TDs as interceptions, good completion percentage. A team could do far worse than Wallace as a backup.

I guess Seneca had an old copy of that Pete Carrol playbook

Mike Wallace, yes – Seneca Wallace, NO!

Always the same schtick. Where was Seattle while the 49’s were in the Superbowl? Maybe you should change your name to seattleseahawkisbust

Seriously, San Fran? McCoy and now Wallace? Do they also happen to covet Weeden, logoless helmets, and a miserable history?

Why are you trying to be us? We don’t even want to be us.

    Sincerely,

    Cleveland

Didn’t the 49ers watch the Saints-Raiders game Friday? Why do they think the Saints did not even wait to get close to cut down day to let Wallace go? Because he can’t play.

In fact, Wallace showed very little understanding of the playbook, so I am sure the Saints are not too worried about what he would tell Harbaugh and company.

I know it’s difficult to have any football knowledge considering Seekock fans just started watching football for the last half of the season. But the Niners are the two time defending NFC West Champions. You’d better pray Russell Willow doesn’t hurt himself reaching for his locker this year especially considering your defense doesn’t have its Costco size supply of PED’s anymore.

respect for Wallace. May not be the best QB ever but he was always prepared and a good teammate, as much as I hate seeing ex hawks in niner pink and gold I’d like him to keep playing even if it’s with the niners.

    LOL dirty 9ers.

Did you forget about your Saints? You know, purposely hurting players for $$$?

Please put that brown bag over your head, it’s a better look.

You could do worse at the backup QB position.

Colt and Seneca are both below average quarterbacks and injury prone.

Looking bad in the preseason against Oakland gets you on the early cut list.

  22. dstep24 says: Aug 21, 2013 8:26 PM

Well they do need depth at QB……..and WR.

  23. crazysandude says: Aug 21, 2013 8:50 PM

Looking bad in the preseason against Oakland means only one thing. Wallace ends up in Oakland.. cause thats how they roll up in Oaksterdam.

  24. forever9ers says: Aug 21, 2013 11:40 PM

Should have kept Josh Johnson last year, who’s familiar with Harbaugh’s offense and clearly put up much better stats than Tolzien in the preseason.

  25. rajbais says: Aug 22, 2013 12:12 AM

Do we always have to give jobs to quarterbacks???

Not all of them can play.

Not even Ryan Lindley is worthy of the 49ers roster spot.

  26. 64post says: Aug 22, 2013 1:12 AM

BJ Daniels will take his rightful place as the number 2 guy there and the others: Tolzien, McCoy and Wallace will fight for the number 3 qb job if they decide to keep a 3rd QB.

Having watched Wallace on the sidelines and in a few games over the last couple years I can tell you 49’rs fans, you do not want him on the sidelines and especially not on the field for your team…PERIOD!
He is a cancer on the sidelines and even more so in the locker room. He whines and is not a good team mate as a couple have stated. Ask Browns fans..we know from experience.

I’m not a 9’rs hater… you have Brad Seely coaching ST and one of the best and classiest kicker/players in the league in Phil Dawson. CLE fans like me actually give respect to your team for those great hires but Wallace would not be one.

Seneca is a decent backup QB – something the Niners need.

Seneca is also a pretty decent wide reciever – something the Niners also need.

I liked Seneca when he backed up Hasselbeck – I even sort of liked liked the plays from the “Senecat” formation.

Wallace could bring some versatility, and we all know that the fortywhiners are going to need *something*!
