When the 49ers traded for quarterback Colt McCoy, there was a school of thought that he’d have the inside track to the backup job.

He might still, but there’s traffic, and it seems to be building.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the 49ers have some interest in Seneca Wallace, and could arrange a visit with him soon.

Wallace was released by the Saints after a shabby outing against the Raiders (which included an interception and a fumble returned for a touchdown). He didn’t play last season after being cut by the Browns after training camp.

The 49ers have thrown the competition wide open, with Scott Tolzien and B.J. Daniels getting the same amount of practice snaps as McCoy. Coach Jim Harbaugh said McCoy would be the second quarterback in Sunday’s game.
