Injuries to David Baas and David Diehl have left the Giants scrambling to come up with an offensive line to take the field for the season opener, but it doesn’t look like they’ll have to get creative with the secondary.

Safety Antrel Rolle sprained his ankle early last week, but he’s resumed running and appears to be nearing a return to practice that should lead to him being in the starting lineup against the Cowboys on September 8 if he doesn’t have any setbacks. While Rolle said he’s further along in his recovery than he thought he’d be, he says he’s not going to push things too fast in his return to action.

“I’m going to return to practice when I’m ready, whenever I can go out there and feel like I’m not favoring it,” Rolle said, via Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger. “Right now, we’re ahead of schedule and things are going good.”

Rolle has missed just one regular season game in the last seven seasons and none in his three years with the Giants, a run of durability that he’s been able to maintain despite a variety of aches and pains over the years. It doesn’t appear that this injury is going to bring the streak to an end.
