This time, the Jets didn’t have to give anything for Jason Smith.

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, the Jets are bringing back the former No. 2 overall pick in the draft.

They traded for the former Rams tackle last year, swapping out their own underperforming tackle Wayne Hunter for him. But he went to New Orleans this offseason, where he got a chance to compete for the starting left tackle job. It didn’t go well, and the Saints cut him yesterday.

Smith has looked acceptable at times, but hasn’t been able to approach justifying his draft status. But if all the Jets use him for is as an extra blocker in jumbo packages, he’s worth keeping around.
