Seahawks still waiting for Rice, Carpenter, Avril

Rice AP

As the regular season approaches, the Seattle Seahawks are still waiting for a trio key players to get healthy enough to play.

Coach Pete Carroll indicated at a Thursday press conference that receiver Sidney Rice, guard James Carpenter, and defensive end Cliff Avril remain not ready to play in the preseason.  Seattle plays the Packers on Friday.

Rice, whose knee issues took him to Switzerland for treatment, won’t play.  Avril, who has been practicing of late, remains up in the air.  Carpenter still hasn’t returned to practice due to a foot injury.

“He’s getting really close to doing some stuff,” Carroll said.  “We’re hoping he that he’ll practice next week, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that he can play next week.”

Various other Seahawks are banged up, as noted by Jayson Jenks of the Seattle Times.   From cornerback Richard Sherman to cornerback Antoine Winfield to defensive end Bruce Irvin to fullback Michael Robinson, the Seahawks seem to be in midseason form when it comes to guys who aren’t at 100 percent.

Seattle is pretty healthy unless you dont realize football players play through being banged up on a regular basis. Miller is good to go, they are resting him until week one. Rice has been running since the same day he got back. Carroll and Hill just said its a bicep strain so he not hurt bad. Carpenter should win starting LG spot but he seems to be hurt more often than not even if this one is only ankle sprain.

The redskins have more players suspended, the broncos are either tied or just behind and the seahawks are 2 ped suspensions from being middle of the pack. And let’s not all forget that 2 of those five suspended seahawks were technicality only.

Seahawks are good, you think it’s bc if peds then I guess all the other nfl teams who are neck and neck with suspensions or close or a close are all cheaters. By that logic… 20 teams are all ped cheaters… More than those that are clean.

    U loose.

Vikings are really going to miss Sidney Rice, Antwone Winfield, Percy Harvin this year when they are all on the IR list this year.

  23. trollhammer20 says: Aug 22, 2013 5:36 PM

Wow, a team giving long-time starters a little extra rest in the preseason. This is big news?

Only one who worries me is Carpenter, because he really needed the work. But with the young guys who have risen up during this training camp, the staff feels so good about O-line depth they traded Moffitt not once but twice. I am almost wondering if Carp even makes the team at this point, if he can’t get healthy enough to contribute.

Since you copied my post, then surely you read the part where I said since the 2012 offseason. LenDale White was not with the team in 2012 – he was with the team for a short period of time i 2010.

That said, if we go back from 2010-present, then the Redskins and Seahawks have the same exact number of suspensions for PEDs – 8.

Still wanna discuss all-time leaders? They’re both tied.

@OZYMANDIAS- Really??? The Hawks can’t win on the road? I guess that’s why they won 4 games on the road last year including a playoff game, LOL.

As for the rest of you TROLLS who wanna sit here with your corny lines about steriods, and injured players… Newsflash, Adderall isn’t a steriod, so everytime you use that line, you just make yourselves look that much more idiotic. The Rams also just had “2″ players who failed tests this offseason, which brings their total number to 5… So, why don’t you losers go rant on their articles now? It’s getting kind of old up in here after 4 months, HAHAHA. As for some of our key players listed in this article… Avril, and Irvin are back at practice, they just may not play this week. Rice, and Miller are also back at practice, just not playing… Carroll doesn’t want them to get banged up, so we are taking a conservative approach being as we know what they can do already. Carpenter should be back sometime next week. Michael is back, and should play tomorrow. Sherman, and Winfield are said to be fine, and playing tomorrow, while Robinson is out due to the flu… Yeah, really worried about that one, LOL. Try getting some facts before you speak next time., so you don’t look like complete jokes. Well, it’s always a pleasure making you tools look stupid,

  33. allidoiswin55 says: Aug 23, 2013 4:27 AM

    Hendeez…
Surely you read my post. Like I said 2 players that are count against them as far as number of ped suspensions are as follows.

Moffitt (recently traded) tested positive for a ped, atterall.. He had a prescription for that and filed it with the seahawks but wasn’t sent to the league office. So his adhd ass got suspended. No reasons to fight because the process is clear if you test positive baring error (Sherman) you are guilty period. Even von didn’t piss the peds but cheated so got his suspension.

The other is a player like you’ve mentioned who tested positive before joining the seahawks. He served that suspension on the seahawks but never tested positive during.

Also Lindale was substance abuse for multiple failed marijuana tests. He also never played a down and is on many list people put out to use against the seahawks. He never played and was cut faster then they could produce a jersey.

Point it many of those so called epidemic of cheater suspensions that seahawks received were fairly bogus. But instead of good journalism. The media blew it wayyy out of proportion. Believe it or not as much love as Seattle gets they get equally as much hate from fans and analysts for their brashness. These twisted stories are evidence of that.

Lastly the redskins have had the most players suspended period. Toed for peds and a couple other for recreational drugs. So really it’s the redskins that have a huge problem.

  34. dukeearl says: Aug 24, 2013 12:06 PM

I love how people complain about Seahawk road record.

Ravens were only one game better on the road 4 and 4.

San Fran was 2 games better at 5 and 3.

Only 8 teams had winning road records. (not counting 4 and 4 as winning records.

    Two facts for last Season.

Team offense with the most points in the second half of the season: Seattle

Team defense that was scored on the least in the second half of the season: Seattle.

The playoff game against Atlanta would have gone as a W if it hadn’t been for bad playcalling/coaching.

Looking forward to what they accomplish this season.
