D.J. Hayden starts for the Raiders in preseason debut

D.J. Hayden is officially playing football again.

The Oakland Raiders first-round draft pick started at right cornerback against the Chicago Bears on Friday night.

The Bears tested him early with passes to Alshon Jeffery, Martellus Bennett and Brandon Marshall all headed Hayden’s direction.

Jeffery and Bennett each hauled in passes for sizable gains but Hayden managed to break up a pass from Jay Cutler to Marshall that was nearly intercepted by defensive end Jason Hunter. He’s got a tackle and a pass defensed through his first defensive series,

For someone who nearly died on the practice fields of the University of Houston because of an injury to his heart last November, it’s a great sight to see.

Didn’t think there would come a day when I would root on a raider… good for this guy!

Great guy to root for but to this point he’s been nothing but a charity. To his defense it takes time to learn how to play cb in the nfl. Hope he can improve the defense over time. Good young man.

And the NFL channel is supposed to be showing this game live. If I could call them up and tell them how much of a rip off they are I would. nstead we have to watch an hour of fantasy crap.

    That’s exciting….

When the highlight of my night is wondering whether my team’s first round pick will make it through a pre-season game, I’m doing something wrong.
I’m gonna start watching golf or something.

Any rational football fan knew Jokeland would suck, but damn! This may be a team for the record books. Lol at Jokeland fans!

Can someone please help the Raiders? I’m not a Raiders fan but I’m tired of watching them lose. Those poor fans in Oakland. I feel for you. Hope the tides turn in your favor.

It is the lone hi-lite of the Faider season.

Definitely not a raiders fan but hope this kid does well and has a long successful career. Its nice to see good stories other than players getting arrested and in trouble for things.

No real need to report on the Raiders. They wouldn’t even rank in the top 25 if the played NCAA Division 1 football.

I bet he wishes he was playing for the other team. Yikes! 27-3 at half and it was a 58 yard FG.

good to see DJ Hayden on the field for the first time in a real game in nearly 9 months….kid was a four year starter for UH and a big time football talent down here in Houston….

he has big time speed and big time playmaking ability and he will need it going against the likes of Demarius Thomas, Eric Decker, Dwayne Bowe and whoever the chargers can keep healthy at receiver…

congrats DJ and good luck on the season!

I loved the sight of him running the 40 at the Combine last Spring with no shirt on…showing-off his belly-button to neck scar. That might have impressed teams as much as his excellent time!

He had a shaky start, but all things considered, he played well.
