Jets remove Santonio Holmes from PUP list

The Jets’ top receiver is back on their active roster.

Santonio Holmes, who has missed all of training camp and the first two exhibition games with a foot injury, has been taken off the active/physically-unable-to-perform list, the Jets announced Friday on their website.

Now, the focus turns to whether the 29-year-old Holmes can get ready in time for the club’s regular-season opener vs. Tampa Bay in 16 days.

Holmes caught 20 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown in just four games a season ago. He suffered the season-ending Lisfranc foot injury in the Jets’ Sept. 30 loss to San Francisco. The previous week, he hauled in nine catches for 147 yards in the Jets’ overtime win at Miami.

Holmes’ activation is a boost to an offense that lacks a great deal of depth in its receiving corps. At his best, Holmes can be a go-to target. However, the matter of whom Holmes could be catching passes from this season remains unsettled, with Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez still competing for the starting quarterback role.

It’s gonna be a bad day for this Liz Frank chick when Rexy finds the gal that keeps messing up his players’ feets.

He wouldn’t have played except tomorrow is the most important game on the Jets schedule so it’s worth the risk.

    Winslow Jr

The jets receivers are very underrated and could exceed expectations depending on who’s quarterbacking the team this year!

Did he get hurt during the removal process?

Jets-clap: appropriate name for a diseased franchise.

Maybe Mike Greenberg should ask questions about this cellar dweller for half of his NFL segment?

Holmes toyed with media. Now that Geno is the starter, he’s ready to go.

That 5th rd draft pick from The Jets looks like a steal.

He has been a 1000 yd WR exactly once in his 7 seasons… and that was 4 years ago… when he had Hines Ward and A rookie Mike Wallace to draw coverage.

He’s probably just scared to face up against Mevis in Week 1.

I could have done without the reminder of how the Jets beat my Dolphins in over time. I was hoarse from yelling at our defense in that game. Or the players who claimed to play defense anyway.

This probably means that Braylon ‘Hands of Stone’ Edwards gets cut on Sunday.

You run your mouth on a Jet post the day after your team got embarrassed by Detroit?
Have another turnover and call us in the morning!

  22. cwk22 says: Aug 24, 2013 8:17 AM

Thanks for the reminder of the overtime victory against my Dolphins. I was hoarse from yelling at the defense. Or at least at the guys who played on the defensive side of the ball and pretended to be defensive minded. Sorry Jets fans, but I think this year will be ours!

Gotta love my boy Santonio. Will be ready on time to play opening day with Geno.

Lol because it was a meaningless preseason game and I guarantee you Belichick actually loved the result in some ways. Gave them plenty of situational football they screwed up and that gives BB lots of ammunition and humble pie to hand out this week.
