Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker suffered a sprained ankle in the team’s preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks last Saturday night.
The injury was never considered particularly worrisome and head coach John Fox said Thursday that Welker will be ready for the start of the regular season on Thursday, Sept. 5.
“If we had a game tomorrow, he’d be out there,” Fox said, via Arnie Stapleton of the Associated Press. “This is preseason, we’re trying to get ready for our regular season and yet still hone our skills to get ready for that.”
Welker returned to limited participation in practice on Thursday but he’s not expected to play again this preseason. Welker caught three passes for 31 yards and a touchdown against the Seahawks last week.
