Darrelle Revis to miss third preseason game

Darrelle Revis AP

If Darrelle Revis is to play in the preseason, it will have to be in Tampa Bay’s final game of the exhibition slate on Thursday vs. Washington.

The Buccaneers announced on their Twitter feed Saturday that Revis will not play in Saturday evening’s game at Miami. However, the club, via Twitter, noted “there has been no setback. He had a very good week of practice.”

Whether Revis plays in the preseason or not is secondary to whether he’s full-strength as early as he can be in the regular season — preferably 15 days from now in the opener against his old club, the Jets. A prudent approach in the exhibition season makes sense for the Buccaneers and their star cornerback.

Revis doesn’t want to get embarrassed by tannehill.

More like he doesn’t want to get injured by a bunch of scrubs trying to prove something so they can make the team.

NFL Live Look In totally sucks. Preseason is bad enough but the broken coverage is so disjointed. Just pick one game arrghh

Still inferior to Richard Sherman. #getyapicksup

I don’t think anyone expected him to play in the pre-season. It would be the height of stupidity to do that with a guy who had an injury as serious as his and whose ability is unquestioned.

Revis signed a performance contract with the Bucs and knows his numbers will be bad against Tannehill.

Tannehill will get his chance to “embarrass” Revis in the regular season. Anyone want to guess how that will turn out?

Sounds like Revis is just practicing and toning the craft he has perfected and is world-famous for: Holding out. I can’t believe TB traded for this headache. Yes he is easily a top 5 CB when healthy, but I don’t understand the desire to trade a top pick for a guy that is A) highly paid, and B) perpetually upset with his high-paying contract.

I think it is a ticket sales move because they won’t sale if he comes out sucking or gets reinjured.
