Duron Carter makes CFL debut

Duron Carter, the son of Hall of Fame receiver Cris Carter, tried to get a shot with multiple NFL teams, but it didn’t work out.

Instead, Duron went north of the border, landing on the Montreal Alouettes practice squad.  This week, he was bumped up to the official roster — and he made the first catch of his pro football career.

It was a 52-yarder in the second quarter of a wild game the Als won in the final seconds, 39-38, over the B.C. Lions.  The victory gave interim coach Jim Popp, who has interviewed for multiple NFL G.M. jobs in recent years, the first win during his most recent stint on the sidelines.

Carter made no other catches on the night, but his big play could get him more chances.  And if ESPN still had a preseason game to broadcast this weekend, Cris Carter’s colleague Chris Berman surely would have shown the highlight while speaking the kind of mangled French that would make any Parisian in the crowd run for his stash of Deux Deux Deuxs.

So did a few hundred other players who don’t possess the talent to play in the NFL.

Wouldn’t playing for that minor league team in MN have been more convenient?
