Giants wait for word on Stevie Brown’s knee injury

The Giants went into Saturday night’s game with one of their starting safeties on the sideline with an injury and the night ended with the other one injured as well.

While the expectation is that Antrel Rolle will be fine for the season opener, there’s no such confidence about Stevie Brown yet. Brown went down while trying to make a cut during an interception return in the first half in the kind of non-contact injury that often leads to extended absences from the injury. The Giants called it a sprain on Saturday night, but Brown’s expected to have an MRI to fully assess the damage.

“I feel bad for Stevie Brown,” coach Tom Coughlin said, via Dave Hutchinson of the Newark Star-Ledger. “He’s been a tremendous addition to our team. The guy had another interception and has that happen.”

The Giants also played without cornerback Corey Webster, who has had groin and knee issues this summer, on Saturday and lost another cornerback to injury as well. Jayron Hosley sprained his ankle, knocking him out of the game and leaving the Giants thin in the secondary at the moment. How thin will depend on the prognosis for Brown and Hosley, something we’ll likely find out in the next day or two.

The GMen have had a rough go on the injury front. Hopefully they can get healthy.

Nothing good ever comes out of a Jets game.

On the plus side, the Jets won their Superbowl.

They played so bad it was painful to watch. What did 1st O have like -1 passing yards through the the first quarter? J. Jernigan fired, Ramses Barden fired, Hakeem Nicks last season, I would have no problem trimming this roster. Who should go isn’t the question, who should stay? Shaun Rogers. Ryan Nissab? At least the third stringers showed some spirit taking out Sanchez. Tuck with a pick. Still looked so uncoordinated. Full rebuild.

Browns knee looked like a torn ACL, just the way he cut and collapsed.

Coming from a cowboys fan, I wish him a speedy recovery. I had hoped it was just a sprain or something so he’d miss week one but even if it’s a rival player you never want to see a guy go down like that. Best of luck to him.
