The Lions liked defensive end Ronnell Lewis enough to draft him in the fourth round of the 2012 draft, but that affinity didn’t buy Lewis a second season with the team.
The team announced Sunday that Lewis is one of four cuts they’ve made as they make their way down to 75 players. All teams must pare down their rosters by Tuesday afternoon.
Lewis recorded two tackles in eight games for the Lions last season, but saw the team move toward bigger defensive ends this offseason when they drafted Ziggy Ansah and brought in Jason Jones and Israel Idonije as free agents. Lewis also received a six-month deferred sentence after pleading no contest to charges stemming from a bar fight in April.
The Lions also announced that wide receiver Cody Wilson, cornerback Myron Lewis and safety Chris Hope would be dropped from the roster. The moves leave the Lions with five more moves to make to get down to the 75-man limit.
