Jim Schwartz won’t say whether Ziggy Ansah suffered a concussion

Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah took a big hit on a block from Leroy Harris and spent some time on the side of the field before returning to work later in the non-padded practice.

Ansah left practice again on Sunday during the stretching period and did not return after heading off the field with two trainers. After the workout, coach Jim Schwartz was asked whether Ansah had been evaluated for a concussion. It wasn’t a question that Schwartz was willing to answer.

“I don’t have any comment on anybody’s physical condition,” Schwartz said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “We don’t have to give any injury reports right now and anything going into the season, particularly this late, is a competitive thing. Unless it’s somebody that’s long term or somebody that’s had surgery, I’ll let you know on those but otherwise we’ll just go with the injury reports.”

There won’t be an injury report for more than a week, so we’ll just have to wait and see what kind of work Ansah does in the next few days to get a sense for his condition. If he’s back without much time gone by, he’ll likely be ready to go for the season opener and the Lions will have a crucial piece of a pass rush they’ll need to perform well in order to take some pressure off the secondary.
