Kirk Cousins says he’ll be ready for opener

Kirk Cousins AP

Redskins fans have fretted and worried if their quarterback was going to be able to play in the opener after recovering from injury.

But rest easy gang, Kirk Cousins says he’s going to be OK.

While there might be that one other guy that they’re more concerned about, there’s certainly a sense of relief with Cousins on the mend from a foot sprain last week. He told reporters he was planning to try to practice today, after missing Saturday’s preseason game.

Asked if there was any doubt he’d be ready for the regular season opener, Cousins replied: “None at all,” via the team’s official Twitter account.

That settled, we can now return to the practice habits of their other second-year quarterback, who still isn’t going to play in the preseason.

No team in NFL history has had the best player in history as their starting QB and an All-Pro player as his backup. #RedskinsDominateTheNFL

I predict a terrible year for the Redskins resulting in yet another extremely high draft pick next year for the Rams thanks to one of the greatest swindles, er, um trades in the history of the NFL second only to when the Boys sent Walker to the Vikes. Fail!

Well, seeing that RG-Knee will last about 2 quarters this year, this is indeed good new for those unfortunate enough to be Skins fans.

The Giants need to rebuild they are old and untalented.

  12. annapterp says: Aug 26, 2013 12:42 PM

Why is it that RG3 has “Griffin III” on the back of his jersey? Do the redskins have multiple Griffins on the team? Wouldn’t “Griffin” suffice?

  13. isonic1 says: Aug 26, 2013 12:43 PM

NFC East was put on notice last season. The Redskins, I promise you are back! This is year 4 of the rebuild, the team was rebuilt from top to bottom. They are a young team and have lots of depth at every position.

  14. obnoxiousDCfan says: Aug 26, 2013 12:52 PM

Cedric Griffin was on the team when Robert was drafted, plus they changed the rules so you could have suffixes on the jerseys(JR, III, ect). In the past, in the case of a team having two of the same last names, Robert would have had to have R.Griffin on his jersey. What difference does is make anyway??

  15. cadillacjosh says: Aug 26, 2013 1:06 PM

I know logicalvoicesays is just trolling, but you could make a compelling argument that at one point the Packers did have the best QB ever and an all-pro as a backup with Favre/Rodgers. Not that I think Favre was the best ever, but the argument is there.

Logicalvoices seems to have forgotten Joe Montana and Steve Young.

    FraudIII certainly doesnt qualify.

Every year, a team that made the playoffs the previous year will not qualify. Usually its two or three teams but at least one team. In 2013, it will be the Redskins. Book it.

only high draft pick you got so far is your own…Rams will pick from the skins will be near the back of the first round..so live with it ..Redskins won this trade easily…

Oh he’ll be ready alright. Ready to get crushed by the birds Monday night on a national stage. I don’t think I need to remind anyone what happened the last time Vick went into FedEx on a Monday.

  26. harrypairotestes says: Aug 26, 2013 2:46 PM

I will agree that Cousins seems real capable of playing and performing at a consistent level under center for the skins as he’s shown, albeit, on a limited basis.

Now, can he garner enough wins to take them to another playoff appearance? If so, can he then get them past the first round of the playoffs? These are all possibilities. And I think it can be a “headache” for the skins if, ever, they eventually come into a point where they have a QB issue wherein, they don’t know who to play, and really keep, since they have two QBs that can start and play for them.

The Redskins would have been back if they didn’t get hit with the cap penalty and destroy their star QB last year. Those 4 years of re-building are completely plagued with red flags plus you have a terrible coach. Teams will dance all over your defense this year and as the Eagles learned the hard way you can’t take a mobile QB and in one off season turn him into a pocket passer. Goodluck tho!

  28. skins1970 says: Aug 26, 2013 6:14 PM

@someorandomguy The cap penalty didn’t hurt the Skins in fact they still won the division despite John Mara’s efforts to hurt them. Also RG3 was not destroyed. Also the defense will be much better now that Brian Orakpo is back.

  29. joparks2012 says: Aug 26, 2013 8:27 PM

For those of you who do nothing but predict doom and gloom for the Skins, you have to sit and wonder that all the while you have been bashing this team, the owner finally understood that decisions were better left to professionals and Allen and Shannahan have taken their time and completely rebuilt this team. It’s a young squad built with character guys and the best thing is they did it without going through free agency. The real test for this team is not this year but next year when they get all of their cap-space back to see what they have really learned over this time. The Skins are a fun team to watch because they from afar appear to have a lot of good guys to root for. Will they win it all this year? Who knows but one thing is certain, this team will consistently contend over the next decade which for a lot of us we haven’t really seen that from the Skins since the 80’s.

I am a Redskins fan. I follow these articles because I love my team. I live the name, the coach, the four stating qbs we have cultivated. We a a decent team that can finally be respected again.

Those of you who wish nothing but ill will are losers who need to get your own team and pay more attention to those articles. I hate Dallas but recognize they are a decent team. I hate Russell Wilson but mostly because he isn’t on my team.

Big difference between me and some of the hosers posting here.
