Lawrence Jackson among Vikings’ cuts

Lawrence Jackson AP

As the Vikings make their way down toward the 75-man roster limit, defensive end Lawrence Jackson has lost his job.

Jackson, a former first-round pick of the Seahawks who played the last three years for the Lions, was released by Minnesota today.

Although Jackson has shown flashes of talent during his five-year NFL career, he’s been a disappointment considering what was expected of him coming out of USC. Jackson has just 19.5 sacks in five NFL seasons.

The Vikings also released receiver LaMark Brown, receiver Erik Highsmith, guard Tyler Holmes, defensive end Marquis Jackson, linebacker Stanford Keglar, defensive back Greg McCoy, running back Bradley Randle, receiver Chris Summers, quarterback James Vandenberg, center Camden Wentz, running back Jerodis Williams and defensive back Roderick Williams.

Chiefs, not Seahawks. Seattle drafted their own bust.

When you’re cut by the vikings, there really is no other place to go.

    Welcome to the real world.

B-Rad Randle standing in line behind MVPeterson was like running w/a pair of scissors.

Maybe the Packers can pick him up to help their porous D.

The bust rate for USC players must be off the charts.

Most of them are just too entitled.

    Vikes didn’t cut Ponder? WOW!

Don’t worry. Mayhew will bring him back.

Ah the last first round pick of the man that single handedly ruined a championship team Holmgren was trying to build. He was a pretty big disappointment. Not like Aaron curry but just about as productive. Well at least the Lions gave something for him.

Cue the “another USC bust” comments.

  12. fargovikesfan says: Aug 26, 2013 8:37 PM

and big surprise, tokyoassblaster is one of the first to comment on a Vikings post. Why don’t you stop playing with your Clay Matthews action figure and go upstairs to see if your mom has supper ready for you?

  13. osiris33 says: Aug 26, 2013 8:39 PM

He was drafted by the Seahawks. You’re thinking of Tyson Jackson, who’s almost as big a bust.

  14. aaroncurryisbust says: Aug 26, 2013 8:44 PM

Uh, Lawrence Jackson wasn’t Tim Ruskell’s final 1st round draft pick, Aaron Curry was. And what a spectacular bust he turned out to be. Worst GM ever.

    osiris33,

your comment lacks football knowledge Sc has the most hall of famers out of any school. nice try.

Ok, he sucked. The amazing part is the Viking coaches could discern that he actually sucks more than his fellow d-line men. That takes a trained eye.

sfsugator, I’m well aware of USC’s pipeline to the NFL, Super Bowl and Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, there is a population on here who have no clue and jump at the chance to run their mouths with “another USC bust” comments.

  22. hawkforlife says: Aug 26, 2013 9:28 PM

    @ wholelottaawesome

Please, no more Mike Holmgren as the great coach/GM.

“ruined a championship team Holmgren was trying to build.”

He was responsible for destroying the Hawks but gets nothing but praise for it.

1992-1998, he served as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers, followed by head coaching the Seattle Seahawks from 1999 to 2008. After all that one (1) ring and it was in spite of Holmgren.

As a GM even worse, look at the mess he left Seattle in and now Cleveland.

    Enough already.

Did you guys not see what time Tokyosandpounder posted? He posted around 630pm. Supper is around 5pm and was able to do his last daily trolling before beddy-boo.

Now it’s about 830pm…..otherwise known as jammy time.

Nighty nite little troll! The adults will partake in the PFT conversation from here, with the exception of the requisite, troll-ish “noodle arm Ponder chic” post from fudge-packin filthy coming soon.

  24. aldante66 says: Aug 26, 2013 10:17 PM

Perry will probably join him as a huge busts unless he starts to show something. He had a decent last game but that was one game in 19. For a first round pick that ain’t saying a lot

I keep getting hate mail from you pansies.

Just so you know, I love it.

    Keep it coming!

  26. theytukrjobs says: Aug 26, 2013 11:13 PM

I’m mildly concerned that none of the young WR’s the Vikes brought in so far have been able to do anything. It makes me wonder if the WR’s they have are decent and it is only QB holding things back.

  27. zygizag says: Aug 26, 2013 11:36 PM

Not a pro or con USC fan but when a college has many players make it to the NFL the number of busts they have will be higher than the number of bust a college that only has a handful go.

    ______

They also do have a lot of busts, Sanchez Lienart, Mike Williams and Reggie Bush.

That being said, they have been a popular college, that draws in some very skilled players, because of that pipeline to the NFL but that’s why I believe they have more busts but so does LSU and Texas

  29. TBaySlim says: Aug 27, 2013 8:41 AM

no real surprise cuts here, maybe toyko will see if one of these guys will come over to play video games with him

  30. tokyosandblaster says: Aug 27, 2013 9:21 AM

I do play a lot of Video Games during football season.

The only thing is: I’d rather play with cool people, not people cut by the worst franchise in sports history.

    What a bunch of losers!
