Santonio Holmes returns to practice with Jets

After being activated off the physically unable to perform list on Friday, wide receiver Santonio Holmes practiced with the New York Jets Monday for the first time since suffering a Lisfranc injury last September.

According to Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com, Holmes looked “smooth cutting on the field” though he wasn’t running at full speed. Holmes also went through pregame warmups with the Jets prior to their preseason game against the New York Giants but Monday was his first chance to take part since being activated.

Holmes has been somewhat tentative about his status and whether he’ll be ready for the Jets’ season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, returning to practice is a good step toward being able to return to action sooner than later.

Holmes caught 20 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown in just four games last season for the Jets.

Everyone speculated he was milking his injury so he could miss all of training camp. Looks like he returned right on cue supporting that claim.

Could there be any less leadership and dedication on this sorry excuse for a team?

Same comment as on the Goodson story:

Holmes is nothing special, but he’s a skill player on a team that has a serious skill problem. If he can be anything like he has been in the past, it will be a huge help.

That pick is Holmes? He looks like one of the 51 year old assistants

No surprise here. Diva wide receiver showing up to participate a week and a half before the season. Does the circus end in N.Y.? I almost feel sorry for the fans.

Have any of you had a lisfranc injury? They never truly heal. He will always be in pain or discomfort. While he may have been medically cleared. It will take him a while to trust that foot again. Its all mental now. He’s not milking it he just doesn’t trust it. Iv’e been there, I still have a slight limp even though I shouldn’t. I just don’t trust putting weight on a foot that still feels uncomfortable. So before you pass judgement on him think of he’s going through and whether or not you could do his job with his injury.
