Seahawks give extension to Clint Gresham

Clint Gresham AP

The Seattle Seahawks agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension for long-snapper Clint Gresham Monday.

The deal, first reported by Brian McIntyre of Yahoo! Sports, extends his contract through the 2014 season. A source confirmed the deal is worth $1.655 million over two seasons with a $275,000 signing bonus.

Gresham was scheduled to make $1.323 million for the Seahawks this season after signing a restricted free agent tender with the team in March.

By getting Gresham to agree to an extension, the Seahawks will save $555,500 against the salary cap this season.

Seattle had previously brought in Adam Steiner and Kyle Nelson this offseason to compete for the job with Gresham. However, the team released Nelson Monday as the team closed in on an agreement with Gresham.

According to the SF-Seattle timeline, Seattle was supposed to trade somebody – not give someone an extension.

Best job in the league. As long as you don’t get a case of The Yips (see Ryan Pontbriand) you’ll be fine. Stack your money, have all the perks of being an NFL player but nobody knows your name (you don’t want them to because if they do that means you screwed up). Good job. Living the dream.

Remind me to teach my first born son to be a long snapper….$1.655 over two years for snapping the ball 5 times a game? wow….
