Brandon Marshall feeling frustrated as he recovers from hip injury

Brandon Marshall AP

Bears receiver Brandon Marshall is frustrated as he recovers from offseason hip surgery, and he says he’s not as ready for the regular season as he would like to be.

“It’s one of those things where I’m just trying to get healthy for Week 1,” Marshall said, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “So you’ve got to have a game plan coming off surgery, a third hip surgery. So yeah, I’m not where I want to be right now. It’s a little frustrating. But we’ll see.”

Marshall has been playing during the preseason, but he suggested that he’s feeling pressure to play.

“Some people might think I need to be farther on than where I am, so it’s a little frustrating not being where I want to be right now and maybe being pushed a little bit,” Marshall said.

The Bears are counting on Marshall to be their No. 1 receiver. If he’s not ready to go this season, a lot of people in Chicago will feel frustrated.

Don’t worry, Brandon. Your fellow Bears teammates will join you in your frustration as the season unravels by week 6.

Well this is not good news for Bears fans, and I think the Lions have a problem because they don’t have a solid number two

  4. vdogg says: Aug 27, 2013 5:47 PM

I dont care how frustrated he gets as long as Forte keeps runing them in from 30 yds out on a consistent basis….

Funny how any Bears thread that involves Marshall or Cutler is sure to wake up the trolls.

Did he hurt himself in in the playoffs?

Just kidding. The Bears once again weren’t in the playoffs last season.

  7. purpleguy says: Aug 27, 2013 6:00 PM

He better be healthy since he’s the only guy Cutler throws to.

No worries, the Packers were on their couches just two short weeks after the Bears.

    He’ll be fine.

    Paging Alshon Jeffrey…

Bears fans everywhere: “Just be ready by week nine. That’s our super bowl!”

Rather than hip surgery, crazy Marshall needs brain surgery.

This guy was destroying my Vikes last year. Would rather face megaton twice more this year than a healthy Marshall. Hope he gets healthy though, Bears vs Vikes should be exciting this year.

The worst injury of the year has to be the broken heart Aaron Rodgers suffered after he learned that Ryan Braun had been untrue to him.

Not to self: Do not draft Brandon Marshall in fantasy draft……Damn I thought for sure Cutler would be lighting him up this year since Jay is in a contract year.

  15. mrsmell says: Aug 27, 2013 6:37 PM

If Alshon cant step up when Marshall re-injuries his hip from a sloppy Culter pass, it might be a long season given Forte’s injury history. However, that D is still solid.

He’s posturing. Looking at the way he played in the 2nd preseason game he’s fine. If anything this will make the porous secondaries of the Vikings and Packers let their guard down.

  17. larryboodry says: Aug 27, 2013 6:52 PM

I’m thinking Marshall will be fine by Week 1.

Interesting subtle little jab at the Bears coaching staff by Marshall.

Bears are a real question mark this year whether they’ll improve or worsen over last year.

One thing I would say- if they start off poorly against their front-loaded schedule of tough opponents, things could unravel fast between new coach and a bunch of players at the end of their contracts.

I hope he can get his head right. If not, there isn’t much time left before the biannual slip on a McDonald’s bag/stabbing incident. When he is stable and healthy he is a top 5 WR in the league. It’s a shame he had so many crucial drops for Miami

Need one more bears fan and three more lions fans to join the PFT FFL.

    Larry and Jazsrt are in.

    Osos? Anyone?

If Trestman would wake up and realize that Forte is one of the best at catching balls out of the backfield Brandon Marshall might not feel there is so much pressure on him. Forte has looked unbelievable running from scrimmage in the preseason, but with a clever offense he as a chance to be one of the best combined yardage backs since Marshall Faulk.

  22. purp1eone says: Aug 27, 2013 8:37 PM

Marshall is a beast, scares me more than the toy over in kittie land.

Bears, Vikings and Lions are mediocre franchises, Green Bay will suck too this year, what a crappy overrated worthless division lol. New England fan here haha

If he thinks he’s frustrated now, just wait until the season starts.

I get the Sarcasm. A fan from the worst division in football saying another division is bad.

Any one of the NFC North teams could dominate the NFC East, including the Pats.

    Suck

    3-13 year coming up

How it comes out, Brandon Marshall in not 100%. Why would Cutler throw 5 of his 5 passes to him in the 2nd preseason game? The way I saw it Cutler call an audible on the line of scrimmage on the first down to throw a 10 yard TD to Marshall in that game. I was calling for the Bears to run it in or at least give it a try on the 1st down. What really got me was after that game Trestman said he excepted the blame for the interception that Cutler threw because he had not taught Cutler to check down. Really now? Trestman has to teach an 8 year NFL QB vet to check down.

Honest talk from a Bear fan.
This is the first potentially bad report by Marshall. He has been great on and off the field since we got him.
    A hip injury on a 6’4″ 230 ish athlete is a scary thing. He’s a big boy.
I hope it’s gamesmanship on his part to say he’s not there but about 2 months ago he declared himself 100% and the shot at the staff concerns me too

  29. chi01town says: Aug 28, 2013 3:24 AM

Marshall will play right from game #1 and Cutler will pass him the ball.
I cant wait for the 49ers to shut these packers fan’s up. Dom Capers
will be fired after game #2 so the packers can blame this 7-9 season on him

I’m looking forward to all the comments from the naysayers when this offense gets clicking. Marshall, whether it’s catching, blocking or decoying, will be a big part of it.

  31. wnstonchill says: Aug 28, 2013 11:26 AM

This is the other sider of the “sword” in regards to Marshall. We saw what a focused, WR/professional with unlimited ability can do last year. The fact is, he has some issues with his brain (medically) that he’s been working on with doctors to try and keep in check. We’re all praying for the guy that he can keep those issues in check and continue to be a productive player on the field as well as a productive person off the field. Time will tell.

Did he wreck his hip when he was bearing up his girlfriend or when he was beating up his mother? Stay classy Chicago.
