The Browns placed their second running back on injured reserve in two days on Tuesday when they announced that Montario Hardesty would not play at all this season.

Hardesty had arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this month, a procedure that came on the heels of a dislocated thumb and a hamstring injury that had dropped him down the depth chart behind Dion Lewis. Lewis is on injured reserve right alongside him after fracturing his leg.

That was one of the moves the Browns made on Tuesday to get down to the 75-man limit. They actually dropped even lower, but claimed a couple of players off waivers to bump their total back up. They claimed punter Colton Schmidt, who was with the 49ers, and linebacker Paul Hazel, formerly of the Jaguars, to round out the roster for the rest of the week. Neither player figures to do much more than that, however.

The Browns moved offensive lineman Chris Faulk to the reserve/non-football injury list and released linebacker Kendrick Adams, offensive lineman Dominic Alford, wide receiver Dominique Croom, defensive lineman Nicolas Jean-Baptiste, fullback Owen Marecic, offensive lineman Ryan Miller and tight end Travis Tannahill to complete their transactions for the day.
