Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert will be the team’s starter, when he’s healthy. He thinks he’ll be healthy in time for the first game of the regular reason.
Via Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, Gabbert said he’s “still on schedule” to face the Chiefs on September 8.
Not bad for a guy who currently can’t grip the football due to a hairline fracture in his thumb.
“We’ll know more tomorrow and in the next couple days,” Gabbert said. “It’s coming up quick.”
Gabbert expects it to hurt, but he realizes that there’s a difference between pain and injury.
“Of course it’s going to be painful but at the same time, you’re always playing with things, nicks, bumps, dings and bruises,” Gabbert said. “I’ll have to manage it.”
More importantly, Gabbert needs to manage to find a way to play much better — or he won’t be playing much longer.
