Jets cut Billy Cundiff, sign Dan Carpenter

In a swap of veteran kickers, Billy Cundiff is out of work and the well-traveled Dan Carpenter is on the move again.

The Jets have announced that they released kicker Billy Cundiff and signed kicker Dan Carpenter today. Carpenter will now have a few days to compete with Nick Folk before the Jets choose one for their 53-man roster.

Cundiff has been with the Jets for four weeks and made all of his field goals and all of his extra points in the preseason, but that wasn’t enough to keep his spot on the roster.

Carpenter has had a busy preseason: He was cut by the Dolphins, signed briefly with Arizona and then cut by the Cardinals.

Now that the kicker situation is settled, the Jets will now turn their focus to actually getting into field goal range.

    Something wrong with his toes?

This is amazing…Dan Carpenter is directly responsible for the Dolphins losing two games last year because he missed FGs–the games against the Cardinals and the Jets (in Miami). So, who signs Carpenter after the Fins release him?

The Cardinals, who then release him…and then the Jets.

Jets still picking through the Dolphins garbage bin.

Too bad he’s too late for Tony FistPump.

The only outsider happier to see the Ravens win the Super Bowl this year than Cundiff was Lee Evans.

In the past 3 years how many ex-dolphins have the Jets signed? Just curious…

Jets are keeping Folk and did Billy a favor so as to catch on with another team. Dan is simply an expendable preseason leg. Come on guys, do i always have to be the brains around here?

This is Good News for Billy Cundiff, because there’s no way the Jets would be getting into FG territory this year.

At least he has a chance to sign w/ a team that legitimately ‘needs’ a Kicker.

I’m betting Billy successfully finds a new job before Rex.

Billy would be awesome for the Jets. He never misses FGs in the regular season. The post season is another story.
But he wouldnt have to worry about that in NY!

hehateme2, at least when the dolphins picked up the jets trash he lead them to the playoffs the last time they were in about a 1/2 decade ago. Dolphins have no reason to take that bag off their heads yet.

After all, they are still the Jets, what do expect from New jerseys Wets. Bill

I doubt Carpenter gets the job, he’ll more likely be somebody’s in-season replacement for injury or performance issues.

If, on the other hand, he did hang on with the Jets, at least Carpenter would get two more shots at winning games for Miami.

Carpenter is far too good of a guy to deserve this.

You people really think the Jets will never make it to field goal territory? lol the sad part is you actually think your funny. Your tired lame jokes are pathetic and you are miserable followers and bandwagon jumpers. I am a leader. And being I am different and am my own own person, I say the crappier the team, the more field goals they kick! morons dont even know football

Carpenter is a good guy and a decent kicker. His only issue is making longer field goal attempts, which may be the only opportunity he would get with the Jets offense.

    Can’t believe Rex didn’t like a foot.
