Brandon Marshall says he’ll play Week One

Marshall AP

After a stellar first season with the Bears in 2012, it’s easy to forget that receiver Brandon Marshall has been, at times, a bit of a handful on his past teams.

Bears fans recently have gotten a refresher course on that subject.

While Marshall insists via Twitter that he’ll play Week One when the Bengals come to town, Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun-Times had made the case for concern when it comes to Marshall, who received a four-day excused leave of absence only one day after complaining about his recovery from hip surgery, his role in the offense, and a vague notion that the team is pushing him to return faster than he’s able.

As Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune has pointed out, Marshall said on June 4 that he’s “100 percent,” and that the team is “holding me back” from doing more in offseason workouts.

As explained by David Haugh of the Chicago Tribune, the more significant problem for now is the hip, not Marshall’s past propensity for problems unrelated to football.

Marshall himself, despite declaring that he’ll play in Week One, has told the Tribune, “My hip is not recovered the way I need it.”

Either way, it’s bad news for the Bears, who need a strong contribution from Marshall if the team is going to compete for the playoff berth it wasn’t able to secure despite Marshall’s 1,508-yard debut season with the team.

Hey Brandon….. don’t worry…. lucky for you! the Green Bay packers will be facing you twice this year…. you should have 500 yards, 10 TD’s.

Brandon had hip surgery, and he’s probably had another health meltdown with his ADHD or whatever it is he had with the Dolphins. Please, this guy is a “loose cannon”.

Too bad it will be in vain as the Bears will lose, again, to the Packers.

So tell us what’s so funny about Bears and BENGALS fans Einstein??? Are you a Packer or Viking Fan??? Make sure you win when you play us…

Bears and Bengals both have questions on offense and defense and both have some injured players coming into the game..As a BENGALS fan I am nervous playing a team that never loses on opening day and has talented players across the board..I will tell you this…IT AINT GOING TO BE EASY for them to get a win….Guarantee that…Peppers will have Whitworth and Collins as LT’s Collins backs up Whitworth and both have shut down pass rushers such as Ware, Harrison, Suggs, Tuck and OSI in the past….Be careful what you wish for…..

I can understand the sour grapes from Dolphins fans but understand this the Dolphins are not the Bears. Marshall will be fine.

The Bears will beat the packers this season. tale of the tape.
    QB’s
    Rodgers VS. Cutler edge Rodgers
    RB’s
    Forte VS. LACY edge Forte
    WR’s
    Marshall VS. Cobb edge Marshall
    TE’s
    Bennett VS. Finley edge EVEN
    O-LINE
    BEARS VS. PACKERS edge BEARS
    DEFENSE
    BEARS VS. PACKERS edge BEARS
    Special teams
    BEARS VS. PACKERS edge BEARS
    Take aways
    BEARS VS. PACKERS edge BEARS
this season the BEARS will have the better team and a coach that knows how to score points on offense. Dom capers will have to go play for play with Trestman. Just so packers fans know who beat them.

chi01town I agree with your breakdown, but you’re assuming the parts have equal weighting, which they do not. You are also missing an assesment of WR2-4.

    jwil007 says:

As a Bengals fan wth are you talking about? Only question on offense would be Dalton, and Def is going to finish top 5. Who Dey!

  27. chi01town says: Aug 29, 2013 11:48 PM

    @ roanboon
my assumion is based on the fact that both teams are 0-0. for the first
time in a long time CHICAGO has a better team talent wise. and they also have a HEAD COACH with a real offensive back ground.
