Falcons hope Roddy White will be back for Week One

Falcons receiver Roddy White has had plenty of injuries since he entered the NFL as one of the few non-busts in round one of the 2005 draft.  And White has never missed a regular-season game.

The Falcons don’t expect that streak of 128 straight appearances to end in Week One of the 2013 season, when they face the Saints in New Orleans.

Via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, G.M. Thomas Dimitroff said Wednesday that the team hopes White will be available for the September 8 game.  Coach Mike Smith has been more direct; per Ledbetter, Smith said White will be available for Week One.

Smith also disputed a report that White’s sprained ankle is of the “high” variety, which typically is more serious than a normal ankle sprain.

If White can’t play, veteran Harry Douglas and up-and-comer Drew Davis, undrafted out of Oregon in 2012, will get more opportunities.  But it would be a major surprise, based on White’s history, if he doesn’t play.

  1. Trust me, we hate Roddy White just as much, (and rightfully so).. I hope he doesn’t miss the game so he could feel what it’s like to lose yet again to the better team. (And rightfully so)..

  2. Got to love the Saints fans on here who puff their chests out talking trash just because they got their coach back. Maybe they should worry about their team just trying to make the playoffs and not giving up 7,000 yards on defense again.

  3. Good thing about facing the Saints week one is they can start game planning for the week 2’s defense a week early. Not a thing to worry about with history’s worse defense (which looks even worse now).

  4. There were more than a “few” non-busts in round one of 2005. There were several probowlers in addition to a few players that are still in the league, although maybe disappointing.

Way to live 4 years in the past moron.

  7. Wonder if he’ll keep his mouth closed this year? Doubt it. And of course Saints fans are talking trash…they OWN the Falcons. Was is it…13 out of the last 16? Heck, even Joe Vitt was able to beat them last season.

Why would I be jealous? I bet you were one of those fans who used to wear a bag over his head at the dome

Just look at the eyes when they are under pressure. The eyes don’t lie.

Don’t know, you tell me… Maybe because the Saints have won 11 out of last 14 against Failcons

  13. sb44champs says:Aug 29, 2013 2:24 PM

4 out of last 5… HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Wow..such a compelling argument. Who was home for the playoffs last year?

  14. Oh congrats. Matty Ice won a play off game. But the year before he scored how many against Green Bay at home??? Oh that’s right… And I wouldn’t harp on ATL being 13-3 last year when you had the easiest schedule in the NFL. Never played a team over .500 until week 9 or something. If I had to make a prediction with the 2013 season, it would be Mike Smith getting fired for a letdown season dealing with a busted up O-Line, a tight end loosing speed by the day, a QB who buckels under pressure, and a RB on the tail end of his career.

  15. Saints win 11 of last 14? have to check that but wait, who cares, even then you sit at home an watch the playoffs while the Falcons take the Division and play. Let’s see, the Saints won about half the games the Falcons did last year, I believe you need to worry more about getting to the playoffs than bashing the Falcons.

Your team is 2 – 10 against that coach. I can understand your fear. Funny thing is, even with that horrid defense and our coach missing, the best you could do was split the 2 games. Maybe you should worry bout not choking away big leads in home playoff games.
