Undercover officers will be used at Seahawks games

The 12th man apparently needs to simmer down a bit.

Starting with tonight’s preseason finale, Seattle will deploy undercover police officers to address a rising tide of unruly fans at Seahawks games.

According to the Associated Press, the patrols will commence during Thursday’s game against the Raiders.  Last year’s home games reportedly generated complaints regarding “fan-on-fan violence and harassment in and out of the stadium.”

Thursday’s effort will provide a dry run for the regular-season home opener against the other team from the Bay Area, which will be played on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Speaking of the 49ers, police in San Francisco have in recent years used undercover officers dressed as fans of the visiting team to monitor misbehavior directed at paying customers who choose not to root for the home team.

  4. nflpoker says: Aug 29, 2013 8:54 PM

That’s all well and good, but let us not forget that they had undercover and off-duty cops at the games last year. They were also causing problems.

Need all the help you can get when raider fans are in the stadium.

  19. n001363 says: Aug 29, 2013 10:26 PM

Not shocking. Look at this site and the Seahawks fans are so full of themselves their already hoisting the Lombardi. Can you imagine being at the stadium with these people? They need to buy a second ticket for their oversized heads.

  22. charliereno says: Aug 29, 2013 10:50 PM

At least Seattle takes care of the problem before fans start murdering each other. Do you hear me, 49ers?

  23. nananatman says: Aug 29, 2013 11:02 PM

Give them Adderall, it’ll help them focus on the game.

  24. don2074978 says: Aug 29, 2013 11:09 PM

I hope they don’t get stupid like the undercover Liquor board cops in Arizona

Besides their obvious stupidity… is a dad using his kid as a temporary beer cup holder worth blowing your cover???

  27. beastmode5150 says: Aug 29, 2013 11:40 PM

This article doesn’t tell the story, it’s more about visiting fan idiots. I have been a season ticket holder for 8 years and seem 6 or 7 fights/verbal altercations and every single one was started by a drunk opposing fan. Not saying all hawk fans are good peeps, I have seen many that are idiots, but at least we are doing something about it, at a niners game, you may get stabbed.

  28. savilo831 says: Aug 29, 2013 11:44 PM

This is the fan base that clams its team and fans are among the classiest.

  29. floriosbigtoe says: Aug 30, 2013 12:07 AM

Every stadium has had them since 9/11. I always try to pick ’em out.

  30. flockingseahawks says: Aug 30, 2013 12:21 AM

Great, now some Seahawk fans are showing as littls class as 49er fans. We are better than that people.

  31. jdubb84 says: Aug 30, 2013 1:07 AM

Uhm it’s cuz Raiders fans stab ppl at pre season games

  32. greenmeattruck says: Aug 30, 2013 1:15 AM

How about sending a few undercover officers to the lockeroom to keep an eye out for addy’s being popped like junior mints?

  33. bestbitter says: Aug 30, 2013 7:08 AM

    I’m not so sure.

I’m thinking it will be more like a bad mustache, greasy hair, and ‘ironic’ clothing.

  34. carpi2 says: Aug 30, 2013 8:33 AM

This probably more displays my ignorance for the Pacific Northwest, but I thought the people in Seattle were pot smoking, tree loving hipsters. Never would have thought they would get rowdy at games.

  35. onlythebest36 says: Aug 30, 2013 8:46 AM

That’s why I don’t go to games. People can be real idiots. (unless you are from Jacksonville where they don’t have anyone show up) Much prefer to watch from the comfort of my recliner.

  36. annes22 says: Aug 30, 2013 9:04 AM

What’s up with Seahawks fans that someone can’t go to a game without a problem. If that’s an ad of the person in the 12th man poster, I’m not surprised. It looks like a vicious person before the game begins.

  37. sandblastermoron says: Aug 30, 2013 9:06 AM

and the Sea Turds will win the west!!!!!!!

  38. italionstallion888 says: Aug 30, 2013 9:07 AM

It’s b/c of the Raiders fans. Worst in the NFL

  39. kingpel says: Aug 30, 2013 9:13 AM

As a Ram fan who wears my colors into the freezing pacific northwest every year I personally love the Seahawk fans and the atmosphere they create. Everything I have seen was good natured ball breaking.

Now Oakland? Well there is a REAL problem.

  40. kingpel says: Aug 30, 2013 9:15 AM

    aaroncurryisbust says: Aug 29, 2013 10:34 PM

Still the classiest fanbase in the league. You are jealous of our majesty.

It was a Seahawk fan showed me how to smuggle hard liquor into a stadium in ziplock bags. Haha.
    Diehard? Yes. Classy? Weeeeeeeeeeell.

  41. negativten says: Aug 30, 2013 9:34 AM

    beastmode,why’re you callin out Ninerfan?
    Little nervous?

  42. lagg1 says: Aug 30, 2013 9:52 AM

The only way to control fan abuse or misdeeds is dealing with it harshly. Fans can yell all the want but once it becomes physical then there is such a word as assault. Seattle is probably no worse than other stadiums. I love passionate fans who care about their team even if they are yelling abusive language at me. You paid the ticket so enjoy the abuse. But when beer is thrown or someone starts pushing or shoving then the local police are needed. The perpertrators should be let out, arrested and fined. Stadiums should have security cameras to keep an eye out on such nonsense.

  43. jslim986 says: Aug 30, 2013 10:35 AM

and all you 49ers fans talking up we have never won a superbowl… your last one was 1995… child please. most people could not tell you when you won the last one… so do shut up.

  44. beastmode5150 says: Aug 30, 2013 10:36 AM

Nervous of the niners? Why would I be?

    42-13 now who’s nervous again?

Vernon Davis on playing Atlanta rather than Seattle “I wanted to play at home, but didn’t necessarily want to play Seattle again”

  45. northstarnic says: Aug 30, 2013 10:39 AM

Trashy team. Trashy fans, apparently. Big mouth Sherman couldn’t be a better fit.

  46. jslim986 says: Aug 30, 2013 11:28 AM

yeah northstarnic cause when the 9ers(vaginers) play oakland people get shot or stabbed…

  47. d0minate says: Aug 30, 2013 12:14 PM

As a season ticket holder for 4 years, (and Yes I went to last nights game with wife and children, 9 and 5) I personally have never seen a fight at the stadium. I have seen some folks using foul language, but they typically knock it off when you point out that kids are present.

The Raider fans that were at the game did a bit of talking, hawk fans did a bit of talking, but it was all in good fun.
