Kickalicious works out for the Packers

Havard Rugland AP

Mason Crosby’s hold on the kicking job in Green Bay may not be secure: Havard Rugland, the Norwegian YouTube sensation known as Kickalicious, worked out for the Packers today.

Rugland wrote on Twitter that he thought the workout went well.

“Had a great workout with Green bay this morning. Thankful for the opportunity,” Rugland wrote.

After his self-made trick-shot kicking video went viral, the Lions invited Rugland to training camp. He performed well there and also performed well in live preseason action — games that were the first football games of his life. But the Lions decided to go with veteran David Akers as their kicker this season.

Now the Lions could have to face Rugland twice this year. The Packers, who have been searching unsuccessfully for someone to replace the shaky Crosby, may be the team to give Rugland a shot.

I like Mason Crosby, I just don’t think I can trust him anymore.

Give this guy a shot. Maybe he’s the answer.

Unlikely they’ll sign him before the season, but he’ll be on speed dial. Crosby will be on a short leash.

Video went viral, but now Ruggy’s kicks won’t go spiral.

Allahu Akbar! Hail Mary! Jesus is just alright with me! Give the boy a chance – he be better than Crosby1

Agree with badger. Had zero confidence watching Crosby set up for a kick down the stretch last year. Wouldn’t hurt giving this guy a shot. Going with the status quo could cost you W’s.

Can this be true? Ted Thompson failed to draft a diamond-in-the-rough kicker and brought in a kicker cut by another NFCN team!!! How can that be? According to Packers fans, Ted Thompson is a personnel guru who walks (on water) in the footsteps of The Revered One, Vince Lombardi.

Hey, Red. Successful GM’s don’t draft kickers. They pick them up off the garbage heap.

The last kicker drafted with a high round draft choice was the clown in Oakland. Look how often the Raiders have been to the playoffs in the past 15 years.

The Raiders certainly aren’t missing the playoffs because of Janikowski so your point is moot.

GB’s keeping pressure on Crosby, who is 26 for his last 27 and went 6/6 in postseason. If the demons strike, Kickalicious could be a desperation hole card.

This guy should be perfect for the Packers. He is from Norway, and they have the same weather as Green Bay. Seems like a perfect fit to me!

Perfect place for him. The world of Mamby Pamby land. Where everything is perfect and they never really lose a game. Just ask any of them.

Akers is healthier than last year and beat him out. I think he is a capable NFL level kicker and wish him the best of luck.

Packers have a punter who can kickoff so who cares if he can’t get it into the endzone.

Kickalicious is a perfect name for a Packer player. I mean, Ped Thompson is your GM and Brauns man is your QB….

  21. tangysizzl says: Aug 30, 2013 10:11 PM

GB wouldn’t need Rugland to kickoff if they sign him, their punter Tim Masthay will be the new kickoff guy. He was drilling kickoffs through the endzone, all TC and preseason.

Thompson should also look through the cuts to find some real offensive lineman for depth, they have 6 decent guys and the rest are junk. Im sure it could be argued that they’re all junk but that’s an argument for another day.

  22. mountaindont says: Aug 30, 2013 10:31 PM

I`m not worried about the depth of Rugland`s kick offs. Packers punter Tim Masthey normally puts the ball out of the end zone when he kicks off

I hope he catches on somewhere. That video was cool.

How dare a GM need another player in a position with no depth look else where? So many teams carry 3 kickers and have time to develop!

Who cares if he helped the team attain a superbowl win?

Tell me 4 GMs you would take over Thompson.

    Happy trolling.
