Brian Jennings did the long snapping for the 49ers for more than a decade, but he won’t be doing it in 2013.

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that Jennings is among the players that the 49ers are dispatching on their way to their initial 53-man roster of the 2013 season. Kevin McDermott is the only long snapper currently on the 49ers’ roster and keeping him instead of Jennings would save the team more than $500,000 in salary.

Another CSN Bay Area report underlines how initial the 53-man rosters turned in today will be. The 49ers are reportedly expected to sign fullback Owen Marecic, who played for 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh at Stanford before being drafted (and released this week) by the Browns.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that veteran wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins has been cut as well, who made some big plays in the preseason but also earned the ire of Harbaugh for two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. The Sacramento Bee adds that Austin Collie and Chad Hall are also out of the running for a spot on the receiver depth chart, leaving Kyle Williams, Anquan Boldin, Marlon Moore, Quinton Patton and Jon Baldwin as the five receivers likely to be on the roster come the end of the day Saturday.

The team has also reportedly cut two 2013 seventh-round picks, cornerback Marcus Cooper and tackle Carter Bykowski. Linebacker Travis Johnson, safety Michael Thomas, fullback Jason Schepler, safety Trenton Robinson, guard Wayne Tribue and wide receiver Kassim Osgood are the other cuts that have either been announced by the players via Twitter or reported by the sources quoted above.
