Chargers releasing Robert Meachem

Robert Meachem AP

Robert Meachem’s time with the Chargers has reached an end.

The club will release the 28-year-old wide receiver on Saturday, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Meachem caught just 14 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns in 2012, his first season with the Chargers after signing a lucrative contract in free agency. He is guaranteed $5 million in salary this season, per Rotoworld figures.

Nevertheless, the Chargers are moving on.

The question now is whether another club gives Meachem a chance. In five seasons with New Orleans (2007-2011), Meachem showed an ability to stretch the field with his speed. Overall, he’s gained 16.0 yards per catch in his NFL career.

I would hope the bears would take a look at him. We are missing a speedster from our WR corps. It seems all we have are very tall possession wideouts.

He’s a natural fit in Detroit. He’s a perfect complement to Calvin.

The Jets have to try him out, so does Bmore. A lot of teams are thin at WR. Just put. Him on vertical routes and keep him away from the middle of the field. Idk why these teams try to make superstars out of every FA wideout who has a nice year. Some guys are only one trick ponies and that’s ok ie Devery Henderson.
