The Cowboys got to 53 players before the league’s deadline on Saturday afternoon, but they weren’t done making moves.

Nick Eatman of the team’s website reports that guard Nate Livings has been placed on injured reserve, ending his 2013 season before it officially got underway. Livings had arthroscopic surgery on his knee this summer, the latest in a series of injuries that plagued Livings during the offseason.

Livings played all 16 games for the Cowboys last season, but he’d lost his starting spot at left to Ron Leary during his absence from training camp. He won’t get a chance to reclaim it this season and the move to injured reserve might mean that Livings has played his final game with the Cowboys even though he has three years left on his contract.

The move leaves the Cowboys with 52 players, so they’ll almost certainly be one of the teams combing through the discard pile to find help for their roster before the start of the regular season. It wouldn’t be surprising if the move involves adding some help on the offensive line.
