Quarterback David Carr, a backup to Eli Manning in four of the last five seasons and the No. 1 pick in the 2002 NFL Draft, was among the players let go as the Giants pared their roster to 53 players on Saturday, the club said on its website.
The club also parted ways with defensive tackle Marvin Austin, a 2011 second-round pick; offensive lineman Eric Herman, a 2013 seventh-round pick; safety Tyler Sash, a 2011 sixth-round selection; and veteran running back Ryan Torain.
Sash was let go with an injury settlement.
Wide receiver Ramses Barden was placed on injured reserve, while defensive tackle Markus Kuhn was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. Defensive back Will Hill was placed on the reserve/suspended list.
Other players let go by the Giants were linebacker Kyle Bosworth, defensive end Matt Broha, offensive lineman Bryant Browning, safety David Caldwell, cornerback Terrence Frederick, offensive lineman Stephen Goodin, wide receiver Kevin Hardy, wide receiver Marcus Harris, offensive lineman Charles James, offensive lineman Matt McCants, defensive end Adewale Ojomo, wide receiver Julian Talley and defensive end Adrian Tracy. Also, veteran offensive lineman Selvish Capers was waived/injured.
