The Packers confirmed the release of quarterback Vince Young on Saturday afternoon as they announced numerous moves to get their roster to the 53-player limit.

The club also confirmed they had cut Alex Green, a 2011 third-round pick and a four-game starter a season ago.

At present, the Packers have two quarterbacks (Aaron Rodgers, B.J. Coleman) and three running backs (Eddie Lacy, James Starks, Jonathan Franklin).

Other notable players released Saturday were outside linebacker Dezman Moses and tight ends Matthew Mulligan and D.J. Williams. The club also parted ways with fullback Jonathan Amosa, tackle Andrew Datko, safety David Fulton, center Garth Gerhart, tackle Kevin Hughes, wide receiver Charles Johnson, center Patrick Lewis, linebacker Terrell Manning, cornerback Loyce Means, defensive tackle Jordan Miller, cornerback James Nixon, safety Chaz Powell, linebacker Donte Savage, cornerback Brandon Smith, tight end Jake Stoneburner, wide receiver Tyrone Walker and wide receiver Myles White.

The Packers’ depth has been a strength in recent years, and it would not be a surprise if other clubs were taking a close look at some of the players Green Bay released on Saturday.
