Report: Eagles part ways with Danny Watkins

Danny Watkins’ time with Philadelphia has reportedly come to a close.

The Eagles will release Watkins, their 2011 first-round pick, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Watkins started 18 games in two seasons with Philadelphia. However, he figured as a reserve as best with the Eagles this season, with the club set with Todd Herremans and Evan Mathis at guard.

A former volunteer firefighter in British Columbia, Watkins took up football at age 22 and developed into a well-regarded prospect in stints at Butte College and Baylor. It will be interesting to see if another club picks up Watkins with an eye on seeing if he still has some untapped potential left.

  1. The Danny Watkins 1st round draft pick by the Eagles was the first sign that the decision makers in the organization had “lost it”. Who knows what they were thinking. Its unlikely that any other team will think he still has untapped potential. He’s not a kid anymore and he’s proven that he can’t play in the NFL.

Somebody will pick him up .He is a good young lineman.

What are YOU smokin’??? He’s TERRIBLE! He cut released from a non-playoff team and would have been released a year ago if he wasn’t a first round bust pick of the now-departed head coach.

    He stinks. Flat out stinks.

  3. Maybe the Browns will pick him up. They ahve a habit of picking up old first rounders. – Damn, I just ripped on my team…but we did draft Weeden in the first round when he wasn’t on anybody else’s radar…although we really needed a QB Wilson would have done good here…but with Pat Shurmur’s inept coaching…

Damn I can’t wait until the Browns get good again. That post was depressing to write.

  4. That was supposed to be a good draft for o-linemen, now just two years later Watkins, Carimi, Sherrod, and carpenter have all been huge 1st round disappointments.

Philaelphia (No D) better prepare for Week 2. The Burgundy and Gold beatdown Week 1 was secured when RGIII declared Operation Patience as cleared. #HTTR———————————————————————————————————————-I’m wagering you will be nowhere to be found on SEPT. 10

  6. Carpenter hasn’t been a disappointment, he’s a very good left guard when healthy. Did you all already forget him pancaking Justin Smith and piledriving Patrick Willis on national television last season?
