Danny Watkins’ time with Philadelphia has reportedly come to a close.
The Eagles will release Watkins, their 2011 first-round pick, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Saturday.
The 28-year-old Watkins started 18 games in two seasons with Philadelphia. However, he figured as a reserve as best with the Eagles this season, with the club set with Todd Herremans and Evan Mathis at guard.
A former volunteer firefighter in British Columbia, Watkins took up football at age 22 and developed into a well-regarded prospect in stints at Butte College and Baylor. It will be interesting to see if another club picks up Watkins with an eye on seeing if he still has some untapped potential left.
