Report: Pat White makes Redskins 53-man roster

White AP

It’s a shame that former West Virginia quarterback Pat White has a job in the NFL, because I just got home from the Mountaineers’ first game of the season — and we could use him in Morgantown.

Apparently, they can use him in D.C.  Chick Hernandez of CSNWashington.com reports that White has made the Redskins’ 53-man roster.

It’s a surprising development for a guy who was out of football for three full seasons.  The second-round pick in the 2009 draft launched a comeback attempt in January, drew some interest, signed with the Redskins, dropped his concussion lawsuit, and never looked back.

The Dolphins have done plenty of looking back regarding the decision to use the 42nd overall selection on White, whose rookie season ended with a pop from Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor and who was cut during the following training camp.  Former Dolphins V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells has expressed regret for making White the pick, explaining that the Dolphins “violated our principles” by drafting a quarterback based largely on the fact that he was a great college player.

Per a league source, indications currently are that quarterback Rex Grossman also has a spot on the 53-man roster.  If both survive the cut to 53, either could still be dumped in the coming days, when the bottom of every roster churns.

Though it’s not unprecedented for a team to carry four quarterbacks on the roster, it doesn’t happen often.

we all know florio loves him some pat white. but that is OK this time. I was actually kind of blown away by how well he did in the preseason with being away from the nfl for awhile. I kind of enjoy watching him run the redskins offense, and if griffin does go down, im not so sure its that big of a drop off in terms of running the read option

Strange move, but I’m sure they have a plan for this guy. I would not have been surprised that they are keeping him away from the NFC East clubs so they don’t get any advantage when they face the DC Pro Football club this year.

If any front office knows what it’s doing, it’s the Washington Redskins. Allen and Shanahan are the best in the business at building/wheeling and dealing an NFL roster. It’s easy to be a fan of the finest, World Class Washington Redskins. #ThankGODImaREDSKINSfan

Watch Pat White get cut before the season opener. He hangs around for practice to simulate Michael Vick in week one.

These 53 man rosters like just about everything in the NFL is temporary. You got the 53 man roster and the 8 man practice squad and from week to week, teams shuffle the bottom of the deck based on upcoming opponents and depth issues in relation to injuries.

Vets get cut and brought in or back after week one so that their money isn’t guaranteed. All the parts from 45 to 53 are all interchangeable. Simply put, If you are first or second string, You are pretty much safe, 3rd string…rent don’t own.

Best deck of Quarterbacks in this league lead by Robert Griffin the 3rd. I don’t blame the sudden backlash our franchise garners. We’re so…much better on and off the field. Best owner, GM, HC, QB, RB, LT, MLB, OLBs and K in football resides in the Capital city. #BurgundyandGoldStandard

I’d keep white all season just to run the other team offense in practice.we have only seen basic vanilla stuff during preseason so it would not shock me if the skins have plays in which rg3 and white are both on the field at once.

The Patriots carried 4 QB’s in 2000, the 4th-stringer was some dude they picked in the 6th round that year.

This along with the Tebow release ensure that Redskins QBs will be the most covered position group on PFT this season.

William & Mary have a pretty strong defense. Loaded with Seniors too. But yeah, you might want to worry about those Mountaineers heading into Conference play.

As a Redskins fan and a Mountianeer, I am happy to see he made the team. I wish him the best!!!!!
