Cowboys trade Sean Lissemore to Chargers

Washington Redskins' Morris drags Dallas Cowboys' Lissemore during their NFL football game in Landover Reuters

Final cuts produce anything but final rosters, and teams are busy today filling the gaps in their rosters.

According to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com, the Cowboys have traded defensive tackle Sean Lissemore to the Chargers for a 2015 seventh-round pick.

The fourth-year defensive lineman is a solid part, having started six games last year. And the Cowboys weren’t particularly deep up front, without Jay Ratliff for at least the first six games. But it gets Lissemore back into a 3-4 front which he had played in previously.

Lissemore played well for them last season in a 3-4 defense but so far, he just wasn’t making plays in the new 4-3 defense. He may serve the Chargers well in their 3-4.

I don’t dislike this move but it goes back to the fact they should have drafted a DT.

As a Dallas fan, I hate this move. Lissemore showed that he can play well on the defensive line, and this team is so short on interior depth. Sure, he was maybe more suited to play the 3-4, but the Cowboys need quality backups (see the last preseason game?) and they just gave away their best.

    For a 7th round pick.

They really must’ve needed that roster spot.

Wow that’s too bad. Lissemore was great last year and though he’s better off a 3-4 end they needed that depth. Very upsetting to see him leave.

I’m hopeful the new GM works out in time. However, I’m not impressed so far with the new coach. The team has many needs that weren’t effectively addressed in the draft. The bolts will be in a perpetual rebuilding mode for several years at this rate. Bolts fans are some of the NFL’s best, but even the staunchest won’t tolerate that long of a drought. I feel the bolts are gonna get zapped for the next few years at least. Sad.
