The Lions added a safety via waivers on Sunday when they claimed safety DeJon Gomes.
Gomes was a member of the Redskins until Saturday, when he was cut as the team got down to 53 players. The 2011 fifth-round pick played 30 games, starting eight times, for the Redskins over the last two seasons. He had one interception and 75 tackles during that period.
Tim Twentyman of the team’s website reports that linebacker Rocky McIntosh, also a former Redskin, has been released to make room for Gomes on the roster. McIntosh signed with the Lions in the middle of August and his release leaves the team with five linebackers on their roster.
The Lions also announced they have signed eight players to their practice squad, including 2012 fifth-round cornerback Chris Greenwood, 2013 sixth-round wide receiver Corey Fuller and 2013 seventh-round linebacker Brandon Hepburn. They join offensive lineman Rodney Austin, running back Shaun Chapas, running back Steven Miller, defensive end Xavier Proctor and defensive tackle Jimmy Saddler-McQueen.
