Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert said last week that he was on track to start in Week One despite a hairline fracture in his thumb and things have stayed that way this week with Gabbert making his return to practice on Monday.

Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said that Gabbert is “progressing as planned” and that he threw the ball on Monday without going through team drills with his teammates. Bradley said that he liked what he saw from Gabbert, but cautioned that it will take a couple of days before he’s ready to say for sure that the man he named the starting quarterback last month will be the starting quarterback in the season opener.

“This is what we expected to see,” Bradley said, via the team’s website. “I think Wednesday will be a big sign to see if he’s still in the right direction. Even after today, we’ll see how his thumb came out of it.”

If Gabbert does not continue to progress to Bradley’s satisfaction, Chad Henne will get the nod for the game against the Chiefs.
