Dontay Moch headlines Cardinals practice squad

The Bengals knew they were done with linebacker Dontay Moch early enough that they were trying to trade the 2011 third-round pick before Saturday’s deadline to cut the roster to 53 players.

Their efforts were unsuccessful, though, and Moch wound up on the list of players who were told that their services were no longer needed in Cincinnati. No one wanted to trade for him, but at least one team was willing to offer him a job on their practice squad.

The Cardinals announced that Moch and four other players have agreed to join the squad, leaving the Cardinals with three spots still to fill. He’s not the only player to join Arizona after being cut by another organization as offensive lineman Phillip Blake has signed in Arizona after getting cut by the Broncos.

Linebacker Kenny Rowe, safety Curtis Taylor and wide receiver Kerry Taylor, all of whom were among the cuts made by the Cardinals on Saturday, will join Moch and Blake on the practice squad.

Moch has a tremendous upside if he can learn to be an outside backer in a 3-4. Tremendous talent, but didn’t fit well in Cincinnati’s 4-3. His migraines and other injuries were frustrating, but healthy and in the right situation, he could be a very good player. That said, I have no idea what Arizona runs..

Not a bad place to land with his physical abilities. Maybe he will learn a thing or two from John Abraham. Abraham looked good in preseason.

This guy is a great player. Good luck to the Cardinals, you have a potential pro bowler in Moch. He is great in the pass rush and on special teams. Foolish move for the Bengals.
