Raiders General Manager Reggie McKenzie announced Monday that Barron has been released to make room for veteran tackle Tony Pashos. The well traveled Pashos has played for five teams over the course of his career, including the Redskins up until they released him over the weekend.
Pashos has played 92 games over the course of his career, but none of them have come since he started 12 games for the Browns in 2011. He missed all of last season with a foot injury. Pashos doesn’t project as a serious contender to start at left tackle unless Watson is a complete disaster, but he’s more reliable veteran depth than the penalty-prone Barron.
The Raiders now have four tackles on the roster, although Veldheer is one of them and he is expected to go on injured reserve with the designation to return before the start of the season.
