Report: Pryor will start for Raiders

Pryor

Well, that was fast.

Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Monday that he won’t disclose his starting quarterback until Sunday. It’s Monday night, and Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Terrelle Pryor will start over Matt Flynn when the Raiders play the Colts on Sunday.

Per Tafur, Allen broke the news to Pryor and Flynn on Monday morning. One of them apparently blabbed. In the same way that one of the players would have blabbed (and likely will blab) on Wednesday when Pryor, if the report is correct, gets most if not all of the first-team reps at practice.

If Pryor starts, it’ll be the second time in two years that Flynn entered camp as the starter and lost the job. Last year, Flynn lost out to Russell Wilson, the Seahawks’ third-round pick. Now, Flynn will be losing his job to Terrelle Pryor, who was drafted by the Raiders with a third-round pick in the 2011 supplemental draft.

Making the move even more stunning is that, at a time when G.M. Reggie McKenzie seems to be doing everything he can to close the door on the Al Davis regime, the Raiders will be starting at the most important position on the field the last man Davis drafted before he died.
