Tyler Wilson passes through waivers unclaimed

Tyler Wilson AP

Rookie quarterback Tyler Wilson, whom the Raiders waived on Sunday, went unclaimed on Monday, according to the NFL’s transaction log.

Wilson, a fourth-round pick of Oakland, is now free to sign with any other club.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS, who first reported that Wilson passed through waivers, the Arkansas product is “most likely” to land on the Raiders’ practice squad. Were Wilson to join any practice squad, he could be signed away if added to another club’s active roster.

Wilson was one of the highest-profile cuts in an active weekend of transactions around the league. The Raiders initially kept him on the roster when paring their roster to 53 players, but he was let go the following day. Terrelle Pryor, Matt Flynn and Matt McGloin are the Raiders’ three quarterbacks.

So, looks like Tyler Wilson couldn’t continue the tradition started by Russell Wilson’s footsteps of being a 3rd round Wilson who annually unseats Matt Flynn for the starting QB job.

I know everyone’s saying the Raiders wasted a draft pick, but 4th round QBs rarely pan out anyway. The last 10 years, the other QBs selected in the 4th round are:

    Mike Kafka
    Stephen McGee
    Stefan LeFors
    Kyle Orton
    Luke McCown

From that group, Orton is really the only one who went on to do anything meaningful.

Another qb people thought the bills should have taken.

Wait. This is the Arkansas guy who some people thought was the best QB in the draft? He’s been cut? Lord.

johorton, so by your logic taking a QB in rd 4 is a waste as soon as you make the pick because they rarely pan out. Either way, complete waste of a pick that a rebuilding team cannot afford to make.

He could probably be the starting LT on the Packer’s depleted offensive line

    Tyler was a 4th round pick, not a 3rd.

so if 4th rd qb rarely pan out, then they TOTALLY wasted a pick. it was a high 4th, go take a position of need then. look what KC did, Nico Johnson looks like a long term starter alongside derrick Johnson. they then nabbed bray in UDFA where all these bad 4th round qb’s belong.

Since Tyler Wilson wasn’t a 3rd round Wilson that wasn’t going to happen anyway. I guess the smart Seahawk fans don’t post comments here.

What happened to all the posters or should I say posers who were so high on this guy when the Raiders traded up to “steal” him from the Chiefs?
