Champ Bailey did not practice today

Champ Bailey AP

It’s looking more likely that the Broncos will be without cornerback Champ Bailey when they face the Ravens on Thursday night.

Bailey did not practice today, according to the official injury report distributed by the team.

As we previously passed along, the Denver Post reported today that Bailey had his helmet on and was taking normal reps in practice. But the media sees only the first five minutes of practice, and while Bailey may have been doing whatever constitutes “normal reps” in the first five minutes, the Broncos say Bailey didn’t do anything that constitutes practice at all.

Bailey said this week that he is “very close” to being ready to play for the first time since suffering a sprained foot on August 17. But he’s not ready yet, and the start of the regular season on Thursday night is also very close.

The guy is slow anyway. Probably for the best.

I can’t wait for Thursday night! It’s the first chapter of this year’s version of “The Sycophants of Mega Dome!” starring Peyton “I don’t want the attention but I’ll stand here all day and talk to you about myself and pimp myself out for endorsements” Manning, and co-starring Chris Mortensen as “The Drama Queen,” Jeff Saturday as Mega Dome’s trusty steed “Rump Rider,”and Rachel Nichols of ESPN as “The Psycho Hose Beast,” and a legion of ESPN Sports writers and anchors that will fall all over each other to tell you why Mega Dome is “The Man!”

    Same drama, same results……

Filing false reports?? Only Manish Mehta has permission to do that!!

  5. crownofthehelmet says: Sep 3, 2013 4:15 PM

You’re reading too much into his absence. I’m sure he just got done with film sessions on the Ravens WR corps and and didn’t see a need to practice.

If you were going to busy applying bandages for getting burned all year you would need extra rest too.

Wait, did someone mention “payback” for last season’s playoff game?

When the team you lost to won it all and you did not….THERE IS NO PAYBACK.

This is not some guy buying you a drink because you bought him one last week. This is more like your prom date left for a hotel room with another guy, and will not be returning, ever.

Given what transpired last postseason and this off-season, I don’t think “payback” is possible in Week 1.

Oh no! Torrey Smith is gonna have to find someone else to burn all night!
Hang em up Champ. You are a hall of famer. But while Moore gave up the nail in the coffin last year, you got burned all day long. A bronco fan here saying amongst everything else, you are the biggest reason for losing that game. Torched all night.

yeah evactly he should do that

Walking on water and moving mountains are miracles. Throwing a pass over two sleepy defenders is not a miracle. Quit being such a sore loser. You sound like a Steeler fan.

i am nt a raven fan or bronco fan, but torrey smith smoked him that game, so you bronco fans need to stop the trash talk, let them play on Thursday and see what happens, my guess is flacco has a good game, but manning has a great game. 30-21 Ravens win

  15. jamaltimore says: Sep 3, 2013 5:27 PM

Good news for Bronco’s fans because now Torry and company going to have to torch someone new. The big news is gonna be when Peyton can’t play after week one because Sizzle, Doom and company are going to be knocking him to the ground on just about every play! That’s when he’s not throwing his legendary 3 yard out to Welker who can’t catch anymore cause he’ s sees blackbirds in his nightmares after the last two AFC championship games.

BTW, you wouldn’t know it by all the Peyton jock sniffing but Corey Graham is still playing for the Ravens and last time he played against the old commercial he picked him for 6 and the other to start the game winning drive!

Joe and the Black and Purple gonna roll Thursday night and if you have any sense you’ll be getting the Moneyline bet in right after you read this !

    REPEAT!

Wait a second, The Ravens D was middle of the pack last year. They lose a bunch of guys, while Peyton’s arm is strong and in year 2 while adding Welker to an already good receiving core. Denver is putting up 30 Thursday night. Good luck trying to get in to some scoring fest with them because you will not keep up.

  20. lanman11 says: Sep 3, 2013 7:19 PM

If it weren’t for Holiday’s two kick returns for TD’s the Broncos weren’t in the game last year. The Ravens know what Welker brings, and if they have replaced their missing parts and didn’t get fat and happy in the off season, I suspect the results of this game will be the same. Without a pass rush or a shut down corner, it might get ugly quick. If the Broncos have to play catch up, Mega Dome might get lit up.

Wait a second, the reiging Super Bowl Champions with a middle of the pack defense last year added Dumervil, Canty, Spears, Huff, Elam, Brown, Simon and B. Williams in the offseason getting faster, younger, and maintaiing veteran leadership?

Wait another, Peyton is a year older/weaker, and Welker was let go by Bellichick cuz of critical season ending drops.

Wait some more, Von Miller and possibly Chump Bailey are out?

    See how easy that is?

ravens got lucky last time…..even Ravens fan know Manning owns the Ravens andlikely wont lose another game to them for the rest of his career.

  23. gpry says: Sep 3, 2013 7:37 PM

Silly shogun…you mention raven subtractions on D, you mention Bronco additions on O, but why no mention of the raven additions on D? The ravens D was substandard last year and had manning on his butt a few times…lets see what happens Thursday then you may gloat or eat horse meat….silly shogun

9 pro bowls is impressive, and he is a HOF, BUT he got torched by Smith in the playoffs. Time catches everyone

    _______

Try 12 Pro Bowls, and Smith didnt do anything in the second half did he? Yes, Smith got the best of Champ in the first half but there arent many corner backs that can keep up with that speed. Champ Bailey of six years ago wouldve shut him down back in January. Ravens fans are delusional if they think its going to be a repeat as last game. Holliday scored on two returns…so what. Who’s to say that Peyton wouldnt have led the offense down to score on those possessions, thus using more clock and negating the final 30 seconds at the end.

Good for Champ. It’s an amazing individual accomplishment, but he would trade them all for a single ring (so would you), so nobody cares.

I can’t imagine how internally conflicted Steeler fans must be to have to root so hard for the last team to bounce them from the playoffs.

Don’t forget how Denver pummelled Roethlisbooger and his ragtag crew at the very next regular season game. Steelers were first Tebowed, then Manninghandled! HAHAHAHA!
