Dennis Roland returns to Bengals

The Bengals aren’t sure if left tackle Andrew Whitworth will be able to play in Week One because of a knee injury and the team is moving to shore up the position ahead of the game by bringing back a familiar face.

Tackle Dennis Roland was cut over the weekend as the team dropped to 53 players, but a league source tells PFT that he will be re-signing with the team on Tuesday. There is no word of the corresponding move to create room on the roster, though there’s a good chance that it will involve wide receiver Andrew Hawkins going on injured reserve with the designation to return when teams are allowed to start using that option on Tuesday afternoon.

Anthony Collins would be in line to start if Whitworth can’t go, but Roland would give the team experienced depth behind him and right tackle Andre Smith. To hear Whitworth talk about it, Roland will be needed in that role.

“I have to try to keep my head down and keep working,” Whitworth said, via Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Roland has played 66 games and started 30 of them for the Bengals over the past five seasons.

That laughter you hear is the entire Bears D-line. LB’s too.

And it’s good old joe with another lame, jealousy-laced troll comment. We know that you deeply wish that your team had signed Roland so he could be your starter, where he is a backup for the Bengals.

Does Joe even live in this country?

Dennis is a huge man. I met him once and just kept looking up. When you go see the Bengals play in person you can always spot Roland right away on the field, he is just so tall. He is also a quality veteran lineman who can fill in on either side and doesn’t kill you with stupid mistakes when he plays. Really glad he isn’t going anywhere.

Actually I am bitter. I’ve been waiting for the days when Cin will again be competitive and feared by other teams (afcn pride), but those days seem light years away.

If either QB in this game should be worried about their own offensive line and the other teams defense its JAY CUTLER!!! Bengals D-Line is going to be destroying the Bears O-Line all day!! Better hope that Cutler and Forte have been working on those screen passes all preseason. Not that they’ll be real successful because Burfict will be there waiting to drop the hammer!
