Report: Jonathan Vilma likely to miss a few games

Over the weekend, there was a report that Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma could be sufficiently recovered from his recent knee surgery to play in the team’s season opener against the Falcons.

We’re a couple of days closer to that game and Vilma’s presence in the lineup is looking unlikely. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that Vilma will not play in Week One.

What’s more, Garafolo reports that Vilma is likely to miss at least a few games before he’ll join Junior Galette’s quest to dominate the NFC South this season. Vilma has a lenghty history of problems with his knees, so it’s not overly surprising that he’d need more time to recover after the recent procedure. Coach Sean Payton was noncommittal about Vilma’s status on Monday.

“I think it’s speculation right now,” Payton said. “We’ll see. I’ll have more when we get to commenting on injured players later in the week.

If Vilma isn’t in the lineup, David Hawthorne and Curtis Lofton would be the starting inside linebackers for the Saints.

This guy couldn’t handle a 34 D when he was young, in shape and still good at football.

I’m pretty surprised the Saints bothered with keeping him. Probably had some dirty laundry on Payton, Loomis and the Saints organization.

That Curtis Lofton insurance signing last season is starting to pay dividends.

Don’t worry, he’s used to missing game here and there..,

He’s mostly a motivator these days, any way.

Yeah b/c Curtis Lofton was so impactful last year. The Saints are going to stink.

Lucky for the Saints, they open against a Mike Smith led team!

Better to let the guy heal than cripple him. Now, as for Lofton stepping in…YIPPPPPEEEEEE !

In Atlanta Lofton was good against the run but the quarterback rating of every opponent went through the roof with him around. And now Atlanta is that opponent. YIPPPPPPEEEEEEE !

Yep, opening against a “Mike Smith” led team…remember five interceptions? We do.

He’ll be back. Fresh and dominating.

Are any of the guys that got those five interceptions still on the falcan’t team? By the way, remember Sean Payton? Don’t worry, if you don’t, you will on Sunday! Like the story says, the Saints are going to continue to dominate the falcan’ts, just as they have for years now. GEAUX SAINTS!!!!

Looks like the 1st time in History a team from the NFC South will win back to back Division Titles.
