Dan Carpenter to kick for Bills this week

Dan Carpenter, Brandon Fields AP

Dan Carpenter passed a chance to audition for a vacant Browns job, and he’s going to get at least one week’s work with the Bills.

Via Tim Graham of the Buffalo News, Bills coach Doug Marrone announced that Carpenter would kick this week.

Sixth-round pick Dustin Hopkins didn’t practice Wednesday because of a right groin strain, which led to Carpenter’s signing.

The Bills will be the fourth team he’s kicked for in the last month, after the Dolphins, Jets and Cardinals each elected to go with someone else.

Considering Hopkins was drafted, and drafted kickers get more chances than others, Carpenter’s likely to be looking for a fifth team at some point. But that won’t be for at least another week.

By being on a week one roster, Carpenter is guaranteed a whole year’s salary, right? Assuming that’s the case it totally makes sense for him to go to Buffalo if he knew that Hopkins wouldn’t be able to play week one.

For all of you Buffalo Bills doubters: The winds of change are blowing throughout the NFL and especially the AFC East. Buffalo gave New England serious fits last year under Ryan Fitzpatrick, with CJ Spiller only receiving half of the carries he’ll be fed this year. Not to mention how bad the injury bug infested the team last year. New Quarterback, wildly driven Running Back with a bunch to prove, complete Receiving core, healthy Offensive Line, healthy Defensive Line, actual Linebackers, McKelvin is back and a Kicker hell bent on finding a home. The start of something new! Go Bills!!!!

The Bills are another in a long string of snake bit franchises that can’t find their way out of the darkness.

Hope springs eternal this time of year but the bills always disappoint. I see 5-6 wins tops.

As a Browns fan and resident of Western, NY, deep down I feel for the Bills and wish for them to get out of the bottom of the league with my browns, but fans like you make it very hard to root for them. Every year, the Bills make one signing that is going to bring them the Lombardi Tropy.

Complete receiving core??? Besides Stevie Johnson, nobody else is proven. Your second best target is Chandler who can only catch passes in the red-zone and outside of there is quite useless. McKelvin is terrible on D, great returner, but terrible on D. Offensive line, yes healthy, but you lost your best OLineman in Levitre and Wood while one of the better centers in the league, is so prone to injury that he is no longer dependable. I really liked the drafting of EJ Manuel and wish the franchise the best of luck, just wish the fans weren’t so idiotic at some times.
