The Giants haven’t done the paperwork with injured running back Andre Brown yet, but they’re still expected to put him on the injured reserve/designated for return list, which would knock him out for eight games.
And they’re taking a look at possible replacements for when they do.
“That’s going to be discussed,” coach Tom Coughlin said last week of adding a veteran back. “We’ll discuss all of those things. We need some true definition of how long [Brown’s] injury is going to be and once we understand that, I think there will be some discussions about a lot of different things.”
The Giants seem willing to wait a few days for a few reasons. One, they think Brown has a four- to six-week injury, and might need the spot more for another player if there’s an injury in practice. But getting through this week before adding a veteran player prevents them from guaranteeing for the year a salary they only really need to pay for a month or so.
