Jets interested in possible Leon Washington reunion

Leon Washington spent the first four seasons of his career playing for the New York Jets.

Now the Jets are looking at the possibility of bringing Washington back to the Big Apple.

According to Rich Cimini of, Washington had a workout with the Jets on Tuesday. He had been among three running backs to workout for the New York Giants on Monday.

Washington started 13 games for the Jets in his first four seasons before suffering a broken leg in a game against the Oakland Raiders in 2009. He was traded to Seattle that offseason and spent the last three years with the Seahawks before being released in March.

Washington spent the offseason with the New England Patriots before being released on Sunday.

While teams are expressing interest in Washington, he may not find a new home until after this weekend. NFL contracts become fully guaranteed for players that are on the roster for Week 1 of the season. Veterans that have found themselves looking for work after final cuts have trouble finding a new team because teams don’t want to fully guarantee their contracts.

Washington will likely find a place to place before too long and it could be back where his career began, but he may have to wait a little while longer to get back to work.

If a team has the space for a Return Specialists RB, Washington will be an excellent pickup and still is very explosive.
As a RB, Leon Washington has speed for the homerun however he does get knocked off his feet far too easily.

    I missed the non-nerfed NFL.

Leon is a homerun hitter when it comes to kick returning. He as the ability to electrify any special teams corps. I hope he does get another opportunity to play this year, because regardless of a team’s need for him at the running back position, he is a playmaker.

Leon is a hell of a nice guy. Not sure how much he has left, but the Jets need a KR guy, and it’d be nice to have him back.

That would be a great fit. WR/KR Clyde Gates is better needed at receiver. Cut RB Alex Green and RB Mike Goodson. Washington can fill the void by all three RB’s McKnight, Goodson and Green. The Jets will have done something good for a change. Keep Gates fresh and Washington still has burner speed and can be used as KR and out of the backfield the way they intended to use Goodson. Makes alot of sense to me. But we’ll see!!

Tbh, this is good because I was sick and tired of watching Jeremy Kerley take fair catches at the 10.

Hope Jets sign him!!! Always considered him a ‘playmaker’ & he brought great chemistry to the offense!! I thought it was a really dumb move to trade him!

Why can’t veterans simply waive that provision so they can join a team week 1?

Too good to be true…an offensive weapon Geno Smith can actually rely on. We’ll see.
