Winning the Super Bowl turned out to be lucrative for Ravens coach John Harbaugh.
As Mike Florio is reporting on Football Night in America, Harbaugh and the Ravens have come to terms on a new contract, negotiated this offseason, that puts Harbaugh among the highest-paid coaches in the NFL.
Although the Ravens were involved in a very public negotiation that resulted in a lucrative new contract for quarterback Joe Flacco, the deal with Harbaugh was worked out quietly. Harbaugh and the team agreed to terms over the summer, and the team planned no formal announcement of Harbaugh’s new contract.
Harbaugh’s previous contract went through the 2014 season. This contract replaces the two years that were remaining on his old deal and adds two more years, through 2016. Harbaugh will make nearly $7 million a year for the next four seasons.
Only three NFL coaches are believed to make more than $7 million a year: Sean Payton of the Saints, Bill Belichick of the Patriots and Andy Reid of the Chiefs.
Harbaugh has won at least one playoff game in each of his five seasons as the Ravens’ head coach and led the Ravens to their second championship in February.
