Williams clearly agitated during fight with Cooper

Michael Vick, Riley Cooper, Cary Williams AP

Unless you’re better at lip-reading than I am, it’s still hard to know what’s at the root of today’s Riley Cooper-Cary Williams fight at Eagles practice this morning.

But thanks to the video from our friends at CSNPhilly.com, you can clearly see that this wasn’t necessarily a run-of-the-mill practice shoving match.

Williams appeared to be tugging on the jersey of Cooper during one-on-one drills, and after they hit the ground, they immediately were in each other’s faces.

Quarterback Michael Vick and cornerback Brandon Boykin were there quickly to separate them, but Williams continued to jaw at Cooper after he walked away.

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson then tried to move Williams away from the scene, but the cornerback was clearly upset at something, and his facial expressions indicated he was not inviting Cooper over for a beer after work so they could listen to Kenny Chesney records.

    Cause like using an insulting word is so much worse than physically attacking somebody.

    Just watched the video. Wow, what a fight -= two guys grabbing each other’s face masks. About as frightening as two women grabbing each other’s hair.

  7. jayniner says: Sep 5, 2013 1:41 PM

    LOL. Watching the video, even Michael Vick was about to ruin Williams.

  8. catquick says: Sep 5, 2013 1:41 PM

    Pretty good coverage by Williams

  12. johnnyjagfan says: Sep 5, 2013 1:43 PM

    Five blow-ups since February on the football field…says a lot about Williams. You can lip-read enough that he’s saying the word “fight”. I figure he’s saying I’m not the one you wanna fight or something to that effect.

  13. lovefootball4life says: Sep 5, 2013 1:43 PM

    Well we already knew Williams was a hot head but who knew DeSean Jackson was a leader? I’m impressed.

    It’s bad news bears when Desean Jackson has to be the voice of reason.

  18. lanman11 says: Sep 5, 2013 1:45 PM

    Still acting like the race thing is a one way street. Would he be fighting with Cooper if he wasn’t the drunk guy spouting off inappropriately? If it were reversed, and Williams had spouted off, would he be so enthusiastic about fighting? Does Williams stand up and be counted when a member of his own race crosses the line, even in private? Does he have a reputation for being that kind of guy? If not he needs to let it go, if this indeed was about Coopers drunken idiocy.

  19. itsfootballbaby says: Sep 5, 2013 1:46 PM

    As a Ravens fan I don’t know Cooper’s personality but I know Kerry Williams is a trash talking punk. So I might be biased on this one.

  20. godofwine330 says: Sep 5, 2013 1:47 PM

    Anybody who would use a word like that in hate or when riled up is a person I don’t want to be around. I don’t like the world period, regardless who uses it. Cooper opened a can of worms with his big mouth. Can’t justify hitting him unless he used the words directly at me, but frustration at such an act isn’t just gonna go away. Somebody is gonna make him pay across the middle and probably say something referencing his Chesney moment

  21. ahs2 says: Sep 5, 2013 1:48 PM

    Typically people who fight are either a) being paid to fight or b) are agitated…trying to make something out of nothing DG!

  22. trumb1mj says: Sep 5, 2013 1:48 PM

    Where did anyone say that? Cooper is a moron and probably has all sorts of conflicts.

  23. cowpiesnotcowboys says: Sep 5, 2013 1:49 PM

    Listening to Kenny Chesney never made anything better.

  24. fnsquirrel says: Sep 5, 2013 1:50 PM

    This wouldn’t have anything to do with Mr. Cooper’s earlier issue, would it??

  25. meandjuliojonesdownbytheschoolyard says: Sep 5, 2013 1:50 PM

    Whatever the reason, getting in your QB’s face isn’t going to help the situation or your status on the team.

  26. cfeeley52 says: Sep 5, 2013 1:50 PM

    Cary Williams is an idiot so this fight was probably his fault, and if he physically assaulted Cooper for what he said last month then he’s even more of an idiot than I previously thought… Violence doesn’t solve problems CARY!

  27. kingjamsi says: Sep 5, 2013 1:50 PM

    Took me a second– you meant “agitated” as a adjective, not a verb.

    As I watched the video I couldn’t see how Williams would be the agitator– looked like a run of the mill handsy defensive play and both players seemed to already know they wanted to fight once they hit the ground. If anything though, Cooper extends his arms first.

    But yea, dude looked pissed.

  28. stoytashaan says: Sep 5, 2013 1:51 PM

    Quick, get the NFLPA involved! With the season approaching I find it abhorrent that these players are so revved up for competition that they would resort to PUSHING.

  29. robdog0721 says: Sep 5, 2013 1:55 PM

    There’s a reason the Ravens let him go and it wasn’t because of his playing ability. With a cancer (DeJerk Jackson) on offense I guess they needed a caner on defense. My boys are going to wish they had never signed this fool.

  30. mdpickles says: Sep 5, 2013 1:55 PM

    Ha! I guess this is no coincidence. Two of the biggest morons to play football scuffling with each other?

    ^^ Which would be an ingenius idea because that would result in a serious suspension and loss of pay

  33. newagerocker says: Sep 5, 2013 1:57 PM

    Cary Williams better have a Pro Bowl season if he wants to keep up his antics in Philly.

  34. timb12 says: Sep 5, 2013 1:58 PM

    Wait. They got in a fight and they were mad at each other?! Oh my stars!

    Of course at least one of them is going to keep talking. They got in a fight. That’s usually what happens.

  35. patriotsdefense says: Sep 5, 2013 2:00 PM

    This guy also attacked Aaron Dobson during a practice.

  36. damnsureis says: Sep 5, 2013 2:02 PM

    For those of you saying that it wasn’t much of a fight, don’t forget that Williams isn’t much of a cornerback.

  37. craigmaitland says: Sep 5, 2013 2:04 PM

    Cooper is so arrogant. Excited to see someone lite him up this yr.

  38. kingpel says: Sep 5, 2013 2:05 PM

    This clown is going to cost the Eagles 15 yards a few times this year. What a baby.

  39. rockthered1286 says: Sep 5, 2013 2:07 PM

    Cooper probably said something to the effect of “Cary, do you know how to play coverage without tugging on jerseys or playing 10 yards off your man?”

    Sometimes the truth hurts enough to get a min riled up…

  40. cardiovascularendurance says: Sep 5, 2013 2:08 PM

    Williams is a punk. It looks like he’s about to get into it with Vick towards the end.

  41. marty2020 says: Sep 5, 2013 2:09 PM

    Yes, Riley Cooper is a moron, and he was wrong to say what he said at that concert, but if people don’t get over it, and incidents like this keep happening, he will turn into a fan favorite. Which is the opposite of what his detractors want to occur.

  42. mvp43 says: Sep 5, 2013 2:09 PM

  44. 950003cups says: Sep 5, 2013 2:13 PM

    Controversy in Eagles Land? Must be a sign of The Apocalypse coming. One guy hates dogs, another hates blacks, the others hate Kenny Chesney, and the rest of the NFL hates them ALL.

  45. raiderufan says: Sep 5, 2013 2:14 PM

    I had a long thing written up but I’m gonna choose to wait until we actually know it was about Cooper using that word.

    I will say though….

    a detestable word used off of company time? Fine

    An assault on said companies time and fields????

    I think closed fist punching a guy 4-5 times in the ear and throat while threatening him and pushing other players is at least the same. Riley may have started the initial push but he certainly didn’t punch anyone or raise a fist or make seem like he was willing to go there.

  46. tmatic74 says: Sep 5, 2013 2:18 PM

    Cary Williams is a bad boy with a SB ring. My type of player.

  47. frankfordyellowjackets says: Sep 5, 2013 2:20 PM

    They say the fight had nothing to do with Cooper’s previously articulated insensate illiberality.

  48. tattooit says: Sep 5, 2013 2:20 PM

    Cooper is a scumbag. Can’t wait to see him get demolished.

  49. qdog112 says: Sep 5, 2013 2:30 PM

    I don’t know 100% what transpired and neither do any of you, But I am 100% sure that the bias for Cooper says a lot about what you think.

    Most people are convinced without ant evidence that it was Williams’ fault, which biased at best and racist at worst.

    Funny how you always line up behind the white guy, no matter what. Doesn’t matter if it’s Goodell or Cooper or Incognito.

  51. bux1022 says: Sep 5, 2013 3:00 PM

    Cooper will get punked all season not just by his teammates. He deserves everything he gets. Someone should pull a Romanowski and spit in his face. Now that’s worth watching!

    ~~~~~~~~~
    The evidence is this: Williams is swinging the punches, Williams gets in Vick’s face, Williams can’t walk away, Williams did this earlier this year to a Pats player. Williams did this in the freakin’ Super Bowl, and Williams did this throughout his tenure in Baltimore. So its not racial its a pattern.
  53. espnfeedback says: Sep 5, 2013 3:20 PM
    drunk riley cooper has a lot of support here
  54. ringheadcrusher says: Sep 5, 2013 3:20 PM
    I’m not sure what Williams said, but I’m pretty sure I heard Vick say “Come on man, leave the fighting to the pit bulls.”
  55. macdbeliever says: Sep 5, 2013 3:20 PM
    Looks like he tried to square up to Vick and Vick had to be pulled off by a coach. Dude was just angry.
  56. hopper15 says: Sep 5, 2013 3:22 PM
    I can’t stand Cary Williams. He runs his mouth too much.
    Plus he’s the only player I’ve ever seen put his hands on a referee and suffer no consequences.
  57. laserw says: Sep 5, 2013 3:43 PM
    The Filthydelphia Iggles deserve this all season – they are unprofessional, unethical, and near criminal in their play and it brings a tear to my eye to see them going after each other. If Andy Reid were at the Iggles this year he could have polished off a couple of pizzas during the skirmish.
  58. sportsbastard says: Sep 5, 2013 3:48 PM
  59. colv says: Sep 5, 2013 4:04 PM
    Ravens not trying to resign Williams– this is a perfect example why.
  60. colv says: Sep 5, 2013 4:09 PM
    Oh not supporting the other guy too. He was very wrong in his hatred at the concert. You could hear it in his voice. About Williams I’m saying he has his troubles too. No more a Raven because of that. Same thing about that other defensive guy now with Titians– what’s his name, oh Pollard I think.
  66. tory707 says: Sep 5, 2013 7:05 PM
    Guy is a jerk. Wish the eagles never picked him up. He was probably one of Baltimore’s worst players. This is the same person that would no go with the champs to the White House. Can’t wait till he gets jacked up
  67. briang123 says: Sep 5, 2013 7:07 PM
    Cary Williams is a me-first trouble-making locker room lawyer who will destroy the team like a cancer if given the chance. He knows that anything short of killing Cooper would be met with an almost universal response of “well, Cooper deserved it.” He knows that he can act with impunity towards Cooper, and so do the other players. And no one will stand up for Cooper, ever. It is just like last year with the replacement refs, with the coaches getting progressively worse and more disgraceful in their treatment of the replacement referees. (John Fox should have been suspended for his actions towards the replacements in the Atlanta game). Keep this in mind before you reflexively think that Cooper should be assaulted without consequence.
  68. rottenbellybutton says: Sep 5, 2013 7:08 PM
    Riley would get the best of Cary if they were to actually throw down. Ms. Cary is all bark , no bite. He can be thankful his brothas were there to keep things from getting serious.
